Just realised a screen door lock is a good lock to take apart to show Xander how locks work. What are other examples of interesting locks that can be taken apart easily.

Search for locks on Google and then click on images

Taken apart. How thoroughly?

A hacksaw through a padlock yields interesting results.

A suitcase lock is very simple. Can be opened with a bent paper clip.

And a combination lock provides an easy introduction to lock-picking

On the other hand, if you just want a latch rather than a lock, Then a door latch.

Hacksawing isn’t great for my back. It’s improved this week so maybe I’ll give it a crack……….

Locks to protect your home are a deterrent at best.

I’ve come to realize that people hide behind their dead-bolts
because they never dare to realize that they’ve surrounded
themselves and their family with 1/4in of fragile, brittle glass.

Cars are just marginally secure (plastic sandwiched between
two sheets of glass.

And most businesses between hardened plate glass.

btw, I once had a summer job assembling combination locks.
Every once in a while, we’d “lose” the combination and have
to open the lock and set the combination back to “0-0-0-0”

Easy Peasy
Holding the lock in the palm of your hand, extend a finger to
the shackle and apply steady upward pressure as the other
hand turned the dial until you detected (felt) a faint “click”.
Maintaining the tension, repeat, turning the dial in the opposite
direction, until you detected all 3 or 4 “clicks” as “The FLATS
align. http://s.hswstatic.com/gif/lock6.jpg
