Brain-imaging technique helps people control emotions using amygdala feedback

Although stress-related disorders can be treated with medications such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and benzodiazepines, unwanted side effects and the risk of dependency make them more ideal for patients that don’t respond to other available treatments. One such treatment is neurofeedback, a process that uses an auditory or visual signal connected to biological activity to train the brain to function more efficiently.
