High up in the mountains lives a local lady who has a Pyrethrum farm, and Trout hatchery. She also will accommodate you while you are getting ready for tackling Mt Wilhelm (PNG’s highest)…

But she has a wonderful cottage garden, and I thought I’d share some happy snaps.

First up, for all you Poultry lovers, here’s a Pic of Betty’s chooks…

it is BG, but sooo very isolated up at 2,600m with a treacherous old dirt track to negotiate to get there. During the wetter times of the year, the road would be impassable.

it must be high – a lot of those plants are temperate.

a couple of her lads go for a wander, and they pick the ripe heads of the Pyrethrum and bag ‘em up into the big wheat bags. They then load up the Ute and drive down to Hagen where there is a Pyrethrum processing factory.

and yup, high alright; 2,600m above sea level.
