Where is Curiosity rover relative to the summit of Mt Sharp?

I find it exceedingly annoying that all the hundreds of maps showing where the Curiosity rover is and has been are all on such a small scale that they are practically useless to me.

Now the rover has just passed Murray Butes, but where are Murray Butes in Gale crater?

The attached image link is the most detailed image of Gale crater that I know of, but where is the rover on it? The colours of the image of Gale crater seem perhaps opposite of those of the rover location maps?

Activate the ludicrously slow lowering device.

The central highlands of that crater look remarkably like Australia. Even includes Tasmania although in somewhat disintegrating form.

Some lovely blues and greys contrasting with the sand hues in this large image of Gale crater

The rover is the other side of that grey patch now. And possibly far to the right.

This is one of the latest locations. If only I could find the set of images that are used for displaying the track.

The following traverse map from the start is half a year ago.

“The base image from the map is from the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment Camera (HiRISE) in NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.”

But that takes only extreme close-ups. For example, the following is a composite image showing direct photography from orbit of MSL Curiosity.

This one shows the route from touchdown to Murray Buttes. Can you match it to any part of the image above of the whole of Gale Crater?

Now past Murray Buttes, this is the planned route for the next section. Can’t post image here, too big.

Given that no map actually shows the position of Curiosity in Gale Crater, I’m tempted to make my own, using

Perhaps it has already been done, with access through Google Mars. This image is interesting, as it seems to cover a bigger area than any of the other fine detail ones.

An extremely large version of this image is available through https://mslfan.com

Thanks tauto, to keep in mind.

I’ve got it now. In Google Mars. I screendumped some images of the rover track in Gale Crater.

1. Track of Curiosity MSL in Gale Crater. Track is in red leading SW from Yellowknife. Hasn’t gone very far!

2. Same view as above, but using the imagery mosaic captured by MRO camera CTX.

3. Track of Curiosity MSL on Mt Sharp = Aeolis Mons. Hasn’t got to any of the really interesting stuff yet.

4. Track of Curiosity MSL.
