yep, that’s me :)
well i’ve got amaranthus seed in abundance.
i saw a mob of sparrows feeding on it today so its probably a desirable fodder.
do i want to join another forum? – can they send seed to WA?

“they” are the individuals that join up, the forum is to facilitate person to person trade. Everyone is asked to comply with current quarantine laws.

Pepe is it the grain amaranth (a hypochondriavus) or the leaf version (A.gangetcis) As I’m after both.
DL – here is a piccie – i called it celosia for ten years until lucky IDed it. the birds are feeding on the long, purple drooping seed/ flower spikes at present. you are certainly welcome to seed. its very drought hardy with a large root system and to over a metre high.

Lovely Pepe, thats the one. Lucky has my address . I’ll let her know to pass it on to you Thanks heapsand I’m sure she will give it to you if you
no probs DL – lucky’s out to dinner tonigth – a veritable socialite is our lucky.
you will get your seed. they are tiny and black inside their outer wrapping. they flower about now and die off in winter. so spring planting is about right i think – although you can treat them as a desirable weed and just scatter them to come up when they like.

yeh – shouldn’t be a problem – even though i’ve never sent seed through the post before. The leaves of the growing plant are chook food – not sure about the seeds – a bit fine maybe?
i put some ripe amaranthus seed in their food tray – they were perching – so we’ll see if its gone in the morning.
i’ve only used it decoratively before – i’m not sure of its food value.

it’s supposed to be nutritious and can be ground into a flour

you’ve got me interested now BG. funny – not only did i call it celosia but i might have been missing its principal benefit.

this could be the one i’ve got – the seed are tiny and black. the seed used for grain could be different.

I’d sprinkle it in with their food or even pop it in a dish on its own…… chooks eye sight is amazing and they will find it no worries.
