I’ve been waiting for this.
In the past I’ve become totally pissed off about the fact that the most detailed hydrogen map of the Milky Way was completed way back in 1969 by the Parkes Radio Telescope. With nothing since then.
Oh Shiite, this isn’t a map of the Milky Way in neutral hydrogen, it’s just a picture of the Milky Way as seen from Earth. The Parkes work from 1969 is still the best that we have.
Come on astronomers, pull your finger out and stop relying on this 47-year-old data.
