Review: Blocking the blues with special specs

Sometimes it seems that blue light is to the 2010’s what smog was to the 1970s. It comes at us from directions and irritates our eyes as it beams out of our smartphones, tablets and computer screens.

Right. They’re called “rose coloured glasses” and annoyingly are no longer available.

I already have my desktop computer screen colour-adjusted so it produces as little blue light as possible – which doesn’t seem to help.

And the research says, in summary, you will get more blue light from an hour or so outside on a sunny day. I’ll try to find the reference.

Oh, and blue blocking can mess with your physiological clock. This is not the piece I was looking for, but it’s recent:

There has been quite a big push to use blue blockers in spectacle lenses for the last few years. It’s mostly a money making thing.

Yes, I think it’s the rapid flickering not the blueness that is so attention grabbing.

Blue blockers are sold primarily to outdoorsy types, particularly to beach bums with hangovers.
