Alas, it’s not to be seen from Darwin this evening due to the weather.
Any one else suitably awed by it’s grandeur?

I washed my car out in the street and watched it rise up the road.

Yes, it’s a big bright moon, but has now entered thick clouds this end too. Still, there’s a lot of scattered light so it’s still quite light out there.

Yeah, me. It was a lovely, bright, full moon. Much like any other full moon. Pity I wasn’t able to observe it rising across the ocean – there were clouds to around 20° above the eastern horizon.

looks like a regular full moon on a clear night to me…
That’s no moon…
Most people won’t notice any difference, but I pay more attention to the full moon than most people.

It isn’t that much bigger. Your memory of the regular moon is clearly very short though.

You aren’t the only one.

not really, I do always notice a full moon and how bright it is. It often lights up the night well enough to not have to turn on artificial light outside (i am often watering the plants after dark so I notice.

I usually sleep with the curtains open since moving to this place (there’s nobody can see or be seen from my window), I definitely notice when it’s near a full moon.

OK. so you are a lot like me. The moon tonight is bigger but not so you’d notice unless someone told you. However, go for a walk tonight and leave the torch at home.

Last night would have been brighter than norm.
Three supermoons this year. This is the second. An image of the first supermoon this year with the ISS in front is below.

Interesting that when the moon is super, you can see slightly less of it

closer.
I think Supermoon is misleading… I mean is it faster than a speeding bullet? can it leap tall buildings with a single bound? can it reverse the earth to go back in time? has it ever saved lois lane? these are the questions we should be asking

It has always been just a bigger moon. Have never wondered otherwise about the denominantion.

More of the limb is hidden because it is closer
of course the Moon is not really bigger, it is just closer.

More of the limb is hidden because it is closer
It is also hidden because the reflected light is closer.

Hovering over the link, it can be seen to link to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micromoon. But clicking on the link leads to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supermoon. In other words, Micromoon doesn’t even get its own article in Wikipedia.
