My self-sown passionfruit vine is running rampant..lol.

It has taken over the chinese star jasmine but oh the fruits look fantastic. If they are anywhere near as good as they were last year they will be terrific.

It is going well…and it doesn’t get much attention. People try to tell me that you can’t grow them here because of the frosts, but I’ve never had problems. It obviously has enough protection where it is, facing almost north. The one on the chook pen fence doesn’t fare so well though. It’s a bit more exposed and doesn’t get as much water…not to mention often being pruned by the chooks.

Oh the fruit on that looks great!
Being in a sheltered spot that’s quite possibly frost free , wonderful :)

It isn’t frosts that harm the vine so much as tired tight soil and poor watering.

Frosts may reduce the fruiting capacity and on teh odd occasion actually spell the death of the plant but good gardening usually compensates for frost with passionfruit though once every seven to eleven years expect one frost that you should be prepared for.

What you do need help with is this.. Passionfruit require far more support than you are offering it. From my experience.. a passionfruit will want to be filling all that empty space.

Arvo All, well you are lucky AnneS…I just hope mine do as well……when I get them planted.
According to one of my last mags I got, if I plant a Nelly Kelly and a Panama red? (must look again) I should be enjoying fruit for 8 months of the year. Well wish me luck is all I can say.
