Skillful cockatoos filmed making the same tool from different materials
Researchers from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna and the University of Oxford have shown that Goffin’s cockatoos can make and use elongated tools of appropriate shape and length out of different materials, suggesting that the birds can anticipate how the tools will be used.

We have positioned ourselves next to God for so long that it must come as a great surprise to many that other creatures also lead meaningful lives.

Oh well, that explains it. That’s not a “real” cockatoo. ;-)
How may tool-using animals have been observed so far? Let’s see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tool_use_by_animals
Primates, Cetaceans, Elephants, Sea otters, Carnivores.
Woodpecker finches, Corvids, Warblers, Parrots, Egyptian vultures, Brown-headed nuthatches, Gulls, Owls
Cephalopods
Insects (ant, wasp)
Fish (wrasse, stingray, dameselfish, chiclid, archerfish, triggerfish)
Alligators and crocodiles.

What’s interesting is how they learn from each other and possibly us.
I could be wrong but one of ours cats looks like it is mimicking us when we turn the door handle to go outside, he stretches up and puts his paws on the handle when he wants to go out.

my dog can open doors. she jumps up and pulls the handle down.. of course she can only do this with doors that open away from her, she hasn’t yet mastered how to pull a closed door towards her.

the orangs at the zoo are not longer allowed to have crates for behaviour enrichment. This follows the day that one of them managed to convince (somehow) the others to hurl their crates into their enclosure so they could make a ladder to climb out.
(All orangs are solitary, one male who has a harem, but live and nest in single trees over a large area. So the enclosures at the zoo mimic this )
it’s no secret that orang’s are excellent tool makers and users, but to have convincing communication skills is another step

They should try it again, but next time have a couple of HD video cameras and audio to record every minute of it. Might be a PhD in there.

I’d give them say 2.27 on the PWM Brightness Scale with Humans on 10.

based on the randomness of the scale I would say a 14
