where to when entertainment rules the world

it’s all turned on, got the money (probably borrowed) the promise of whatever you want.

got the big high-definition TV, you see every detail in a persons face and posture, you can pause it and confuse a persons constipation discomfort (or the hiding of) for something else

lots of channels. Lots.

plenty of violence, last thing I saw lastnight was a lady in red murdering people, about the time I switched it off (I channel hopped briefly, hoping to be entertained)

what’s the trajectory of this the world is for your entertainment

It along with sport is a good distraction from the ills of the world, probably encouraged so we don’t wake up and demand our “leaders” do better

I use my high definition smart TV mostly for watching science documentaries and live sport.

Works for me. I missed out on the lady in the red dress murdering someone but I can live my life without it.

One Nation under God
Has turned into
One Nation under the influence
Of one drug

Television, the drug of the Nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

T. V., it satellite links
Our United States of unconciousness
Apathetic therapeutic and extremely addictive
The methadone metronome pumping out
A 150 channels 24 hours a day
You can flip through all of them
And still there’s nothing worth watching

T. V. Is the reason why less than ten percent of our
Nation reads books daily
Why most people think Central America
Means Kansas
Socialism means unamerican
And Apartheid is a new headache remedy

Absorbed in it’s world it’s so hard to find us
It shapes our minds the most
Maybe the mother of our Nation
Should remind us
That we’re sitting to close to. ..

Television, the drug of the Nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

T. V. Is
The stomping ground for political candidates
Where bears in the woods
Are chased by Grecian Formula’d
Bald eagles

T. V. Is mechanized politic’s
Remote control over the masses
Co-sponsered by environmentally safe gases
Watch for the pbs special

It’s the perpetuation of the two party system
Where image takes precedence over wisdom
Where sound bite politics are served to
The fastfood culture

Where straight teeth in your mouth
Are more important than the words
That come out of it
Race baiting is the way to get selected
Willie Horton or
Will he not get elected on. ..

Television, the drug of the Nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

T. V. Is it the reflector or the director?
Does it imitate us or do we imitate it
Because a child watches 1500 murders before he’s
Twelve years old and we wonder how we’ve created
A Jason generation that learns to laugh
Rather than abhor the horror

T. V. Is the place where
Armchair generals and quarterbacks can
Experience first hand
The excitement of video warfare
As the theme song is sung in the background

Sugar sweet sitcoms
That leave us with a bad actor taste while
Pop stars metamorphosize into soda pop stars
You saw the video
You heard the soundtrack
Well now go buy the soft drink
Well, the only cola that I support
Would be a union C. O. L. A. (Cost of Living Allowance)
On Television.

Television, the drug of the Nation
Breeding ignorance and feeding radiation

Back again, “New and Improved”,
We return to our irregularly programmed schedule
Hidden cleverly between heavy breasted
Beer and car commericals

Cnn espn abc tnt but mostly B. S.
Where oxymoronic language like
“virtually spotless” “fresh frozen”
“light yet filling” and “military intelligence”
Have become standard

T. V. Is the place where phrases are redefined
Like “recession” to “necessary downturn”
“crude oil” on a beach to “mousse”
“Civilian death” to “collateral damages”
And being killed by your own Army
Is now called “friendly fire”

T. V. Is the place where the pursuit
Of happiness has become the pursuit of trivia
Where toothpaste and cars have become s** objects
Where imagination is sucked out of children
By a cathode ray nipple
T. V. Is the only wet nurse
That would create a cripple

Entertainment and advertising together.

Entertainment attracts people to the advertising.
Advertising pays for the entertainment.
Casinos are the entertainment that pays for organised crime and government.

Together they rule the world.

  • in that ‘get away with it’ amounts to ‘no sense of justice’ for the victims/family

well, usually someone gets to inherit the money a bit earlier than they might have otherwise anticipated, so, fair do’s all round.

it has always been a question I have had.. when someone murders another and they are supposed to be recipients of insurance.. what happens to the money? I doubt the accused can keep it.. so it’s a win for the insurance company?

Also:

And
Entertainment is disaster.

The multi-nationals have decided that you’ll use internet based resources for your entertainment, they want you to use Netflix and the like. They have operatives out there now saying how cool netfeix is and how gay FTA TV is.

Clarkson is a tosser, May is a bore, Hammond is an idiot but they managed to string together some good stuff.

It will be interesting to see how their new Amazon show is received. Apparently their budget per episode is about 10 times the BBC version’s.

I lose TV signal several times a day. Radio signals in Australia are so weak, compared for instance to those in Jamaica.

FTA TV will only decline in the future. All the major TV networks are in financial trouble, same as the major media companies. There may be none left in 20 years as the VOD providers take over.

Australian commercial TV is the pits, very little worth watching except for the occasional documentary, don’t get me started on local made content

Yeah, the problem is though that the TV networks will move into VOD so you will get the same crap content chewing up internet bandwidth.

Well I’ll just stick with the wireless thank you very much, proper analogue wireless and none of this digital rubbish.

I’m on satellite NBN so if the sky gets heavily clouded I lose signal. Hence I don’t want to go to signal from the sky TV.

I lose TV signal several times a day. Radio signals in Australia are so weak, compared for instance to those in Jamaica.

How much power would the signal require to get through clouds?

This year’s highest ratings for a non-sport program was Molly (Part 1), which averaged over 2.2 million viewers.

The highest rated program was the AFL grand Final with 3.2m viewers.

Overall, network 7 won the ratings battle for the year.

When you look at the non-sport shows that are winning the ratings, it’s reality TV consistently in the top. People love drama, especially when it’s someone else’s. However, the top-rated scripted program was about Molly Meldrum. What is it about Molly? I opine that the mini series featured great Aussie music, a talented cast and everyone has a soft spot for Molly, especially after his accident in 2011.

Aussies also love sport, with 7 sport events in the top 10 highest-rated programs this year.

It’s very poor drama though, what about good quality drama that makes you think about the human condition and our responsibility to better ourselves

Cymek. People use TV to escape so they don’t want shows like you mention.

While we’re talking about FTA TV, the ABC have the oldest TV viewers while 10 have the youngest.

Two such shows I can think of that are smart drama are Westworld and Humans both about how humans react to sentient androids

The only movie I can think of in which people actually better themselves is Police Academy 1.

Just imagine movies and tv shows where people better themselves

a tv reality show that starts off with arseholes who become much better people

they could start with Trump, he has a lot of issues

Watching the ABC trying to be cool and funky while staffed by old fogeys is really quite amusing.
