Archeologist claims to have found proof that Hebrew was the first written alphabet

(Phys.org)—Douglas Petrovich, an archaeologist with Ontario’s Wilfrid-Laurier University in Canada has sparked controversy in the ancient history scholarly community by making claims that he has found proof that Hebrew is the world’s oldest alphabet. He has been speaking to media outlets in conjunction with the self-publication of a book he has written regarding his findings called simply World’s Oldest Alphabet.

Agree. This is an idiot who still believes in Bishop Ussher’s chronology.

Hebrew is pretty old, but not nearly as old as Sumerian. “In July 2008 Israeli archaeologist Yossi Garfinkel discovered a ceramic shard at Khirbet Qeiyafa which he claimed may be the earliest Hebrew writing yet discovered, dating around 3000 years ago”, which puts it at around 1000 BC. Sumerian, by way of contrast, dates from earlier than 3000 BC.

That’s a more interesting question. From memory, it’s believed to be an independent invention.
