how much of your mental acitivity is stolen in some way, and you made it your own somehow, learned it?

like it’s some collection of things you really borrowed, the collection is so vast now and you use it so regularly that where it originated couldn’t matter.

for example

you’ve been using the alphabet since toddler age in some way, all the letters A – Z, and in that time not once added a letter of your own

not volunteered one, not demonstrated one.

It’s looking like not just theft, but some sort of monopolization of the alphabet space.

Hey. I added the punctuation mark ¿ to the English language.

:)

of course it’s just a fun thing, about something that is a bit unsettling (in ways I find it)

like occasionally i’ll mention something, of which when thinking and writing of I know the idea’s original was entirely not my own. I stole it, I might’ve been thinking about it for twenty years, added a bit (more integrated it), but I know it’s entirely stolen.

and the more I think about the origin of what i’ve ‘learned’ the more stolen it seems, even this alphabet thing.

You could have original ideas/thoughts that are original as in you never read or heard about them being discovered or invented before, philosophy would be quite common I imagine by deep thinkers.

I continually find it surprising that l can spell. I couldn’t in primary school, but somehow learnt the ability to do it so now I have less trouble spelling than the average spelling checker.

Analogy is a technique I borrowed and use so often that I’ve made it my own.

Ditto algebra.

So much is automatic, understanding speech, pushing buttons, walking, opening the refrigerator, identifying poisons by taste, carrying, dressing, grinding teeth, showering, folding toilet paper, reading Spy vs Spy, using Google, listening to radio, thinking, singing, etc.

The alphabet belongs to the people. We should charge Murdoch 10c a letter.

Seriously, there are neglected letters that need a lot more use before we bother adding any new ones.

I entered this world and found various tools. I chose those that particularly appealed to me (including various musical instrument types that were rare or obsolete, so I had to make them).

I’ll be leaving some unique creations of my own before I die, which may prove useful to others.
