Merry Christmas, forumers!

Thinking especially of those who can’t be with loved ones today. Tamb, it’s a tough day, your first Christmas without Mz Tamb. We’re here for you today and always. SM, whose Christmas is tomorrow, your day is probably much like every other day but I wish you good health and happiness for 2017 and always. Car, whose family kindly offered to keep their own germs, eat, drink and be merry.

Not my kids. My sister’s, who are quite a bit younger than mine. They’ve been crashing at my place for the last week or so as they are down from Sydney for the funeral.

Best wishes to all. Haddy Christchoff. Merry grimble.

Cobbett and I are back from our walk down the hill to water the neighbour’s garden. It wasn’t as desperate as I thought it maybe. Watered it well. If the forecast goes according to plan it might be alright for a while.

Got a message from Sarah and they are going straight to Tim’s parents place and will drop in on the way home.

So I will be spending Christmas here.

I might give the dog something from his stocking early.

I got it once as a Chrissy present. I loved it and used to play the record over and over again when I was a kid and made everyone and self sick of it. When Sarah was about 5 I found a 2nd hand cassette re-release. I told her the story and she liked the story and played it enough to make me sick of it again. Now it is just nostalgic.

I’m so glad that we don’t live in Bundaberg any more. Yesterday would have been sheer hell in the shopping precincts.

Throw a public holiday into the mix, and they all hit the panic button – “the shops will be shut for a day! Aaaghh!” Never seen anywhere else like it.

And then it’s Rafferty’s Rules and devil take the hindmost on the day before the holiday.

Dogs have just visited Auntie Annie. Despite the marrowbones and pigs trotters she gave them last night, they now have squeaky toys too. One of which has been desqueaked even before we got back through the fence. (Auntie Annie lives next door, gate in the side fence) Digby taught Buschka well on the desqueakering routine.

We’ve etten our cold collation and frozen chocolate torte. Spoke to my Hobart brother on the phone. Got pictures by email of his wife and daughter wearing the scarves I sent them. Apparently they are going to play Scrabble this afternoon. My brother thinks he will opt out of that and attempt the 500 piece Tetris jigsaw I went to his son. I’ll chase him up for a photo this evening. I should give him a little time to do it, I suppose.

Give yourself plenty of time before you drive. You’re never as sober as you think you are, and cops who have to work on Xmas Day are most unlikely to be in a forgiving mood.

I can tell you exactly how fat my Christmas prawns were, there were 15 to a kilo and a bit. The five today were delicious, took another five out of the freezer for tomorrow leaving five remaining.

Couple of reasons for that, 5 fat prawns fill me up and I have to go easy on pottasium rich seafoods, escpially as I am going to have some Gorgonzola and cashews later.

Merry festivus, let the feats of strength begin.

is it time for cider yet?

spent the afternoon playing Lego and doing jigsaw puzzles. Haven’t done Lego for years.

What did you make?

A tree house. It was a kit made to the instructions. About 30 page instruction booklet and took nearly an hour.

Well I hope they were pleased with it. Unless it was one of your presents, in which case I hope you were pleased with it :)

I spent Xmas Day just trying to keep bearably cool. Still haven’t had any dinner and the temperature will need to drop further before I’m tempted to start cooking.

My sister has a whole load of kits all nicely bagged and boxed up. She doesn’t like to just throw the whole lot into one big mixed container like I would. The jigsaw puzzle was brand new straight out of the box.

Is it very hot today there?

Was lovely here today, about 30 C with a good stiff sea breeze. Very pleasant for sitting outside in the patio area.

35 outside but as usual, a good deal hotter in parts of the house. I spent some of the day reading in the studio and then looking through Nostalgia folders on the old pooter in the bedroom.

I had a salad wrap for dinner, which was filled with a baby spinach/feta spread, tomatoes, fresh parsley leaves and topped with shredded mozzarella cheese.

If any consultation, the Arctic is also having a heatwave

>>Arctic heatwave could break records
Temperatures at the North Pole could be up to 20 degrees higher than average this Christmas Eve, in what scientists say is a record-breaking heatwave.

Climate scientists say these unseasonably warm weather patterns in the Arctic region are directly linked to man-made climate change.

Temperatures throughout November and December were 5C higher than average.

It follows a summer during which Arctic sea ice reached the second-lowest extent ever recorded by satellites.<<

I’ll be doing stuffed chicken breasts with roast vegetables, and mushrooms cooked in cream & herbs etc. When it’s cool enough and I’m hungry enough :)

Soaking a load of Serbian dried forest mushrooms in warm water for half an hour or so, which will be mixed with fresh mushrooms and cooked with onion & herbs in butter and cream.

I think I might leave out the roast vegetables and just serve the hen breasts with the mushroom mixture. And peas.

It’s freezing cold outside, inside the house we are snug bugs. I put on some C&WXmas music for mr kii, it’s the only thing xmassy that we do. Oh, and celebratory food will occur. Challah is going in the oven soon and a ham will be baked later.

I have the heater warming up my workroom – it’s nearly all sorted so I can use my new red trolley. Looks rather spiffing. I want to actually get some work done at at least one of my desks.

Merry Christmas friend!

Was a beaut 31 C here today with a nice stiff sea breeze.

I did some time in the shed this morning making my router table. It is my Christmas git to myself so I call it “some assembly required”. Spent the afternoon lazing about at my sister’s place with various extended family. Very relaxed and informal.

I think it’s about 35°F atm.

I know my new snug-black hoody-coat with embroidered flowers works well on mornings like this.

Sounds like a perfect xmas day, p_p.

I think I am sort of missing my dysfunctional siblings etc this year. We’d occasionally manage to put down the cudgels and shields, and spend a festive day together, well, some of us. It was exhausting :/ but I miss them. Sort of. Maybe.

Off to the kitchen for moi!!

We had a lovely day at my dad’s house. Summer storms passed over as we ate. Started watching Flight of the Navigator on telly last night but fell asleep 20 minutes into it.

Jasmine spent the day knocking over the Christmas tree and fan, and digging under the side gate.

A friend of mine got married on Christmas Eve.

Jolly glad to hear it. :)

I actually fared better than expected for Christmas but it isn’t really about me. My grandchildren had an awesome Christmas and that gave me great joy.

Had an “unusual” Christmas.

A dummy spit by the main participant (aged 96) on Christmas eve led to a sudden change of venue.

I totally agree. Especially as this 96 year old is a man who has only been known to lose his temper once before, some 18 years ago.
