Bloody kids. WTF am I doing up at this hour?

I was woken by the dog, who thought there was a storm going on. Miss Sproglet isn’t awake yet.

Not my kids. My sister’s, who are quite a bit younger than mine. They’ve been crashing at my place for the last week or so as they are down from Sydney for the funeral.

I hadn’t heard about the funeral. My condolences.

Cobbett and I are back from our walk down the hill to water the neighbour’s garden. It wasn’t as desperate as I thought it maybe. Watered it well. If the forecast goes according to plan it might be alright for a while.

Got a message from Sarah and they are going straight to Tim’s parents place and will drop in on the way home.

So I will be spending Christmas here.

I might give the dog something from his stocking early.

I got it once as a Chrissy present. I loved it and used to play the record over and over again when I was a kid and made everyone and self sick of it. When Sarah was about 5 I found a 2nd hand cassette re-release. I told her the story and she liked the story and played it enough to make me sick of it again. Now it is just nostalgic.

Our Visitor Centre is open & we do very well with sales today & also on Good Friday.

Dogs have just visited Auntie Annie. Despite the marrowbones and pigs trotters she gave them last night, they now have squeaky toys too. One of which has been desqueaked even before we got back through the fence. (Auntie Annie lives next door, gate in the side fence) Digby taught Buschka well on the desqueakering routine.

We’ve etten our cold collation and frozen chocolate torte. Spoke to my Hobart brother on the phone. Got pictures by email of his wife and daughter wearing the scarves I sent them. Apparently they are going to play Scrabble this afternoon. My brother thinks he will opt out of that and attempt the 500 piece Tetris jigsaw I went to his son. I’ll chase him up for a photo this evening. I should give him a little time to do it, I suppose.

I can tell you exactly how fat my Christmas prawns were, there were 15 to a kilo and a bit. The five today were delicious, took another five out of the freezer for tomorrow leaving five remaining.

Couple of reasons for that, 5 fat prawns fill me up and I have to go easy on pottasium rich seafoods, escpially as I am going to have some Gorgonzola and cashews later.

A tree house. It was a kit made to the instructions. About 30 page instruction booklet and took nearly an hour.

My sister has a whole load of kits all nicely bagged and boxed up. She doesn’t like to just throw the whole lot into one big mixed container like I would. The jigsaw puzzle was brand new straight out of the box.

I had a salad wrap for dinner, which was filled with a baby spinach/feta spread, tomatoes, fresh parsley leaves and topped with shredded mozzarella cheese.

Soaking a load of Serbian dried forest mushrooms in warm water for half an hour or so, which will be mixed with fresh mushrooms and cooked with onion & herbs in butter and cream.

I think I might leave out the roast vegetables and just serve the hen breasts with the mushroom mixture. And peas.

It’s freezing cold outside, inside the house we are snug bugs. I put on some C&WXmas music for mr kii, it’s the only thing xmassy that we do. Oh, and celebratory food will occur. Challah is going in the oven soon and a ham will be baked later.

I have the heater warming up my workroom – it’s nearly all sorted so I can use my new red trolley. Looks rather spiffing. I want to actually get some work done at at least one of my desks.

I know my new snug-black hoody-coat with embroidered flowers works well on mornings like this.

I think I am sort of missing my dysfunctional siblings etc this year. We’d occasionally manage to put down the cudgels and shields, and spend a festive day together, well, some of us. It was exhausting :/ but I miss them. Sort of. Maybe.

We had a lovely day at my dad’s house. Summer storms passed over as we ate. Started watching Flight of the Navigator on telly last night but fell asleep 20 minutes into it.

Jasmine spent the day knocking over the Christmas tree and fan, and digging under the side gate.

A friend of mine got married on Christmas Eve.

I actually fared better than expected for Christmas but it isn’t really about me. My grandchildren had an awesome Christmas and that gave me great joy.

I totally agree. Especially as this 96 year old is a man who has only been known to lose his temper once before, some 18 years ago.
