Subject: Vegetables. Gotta Love 'em! My Top Ten!

I was thinking the other day about my favourite vegetables to eat and I came up with a list of 10, so in order from best to least best, I came up with Cabbage, just because it is the best tasting vegetable around. Then Broccoli closely followed by peas, both these green vegies are well tasty. Then in fourth place I listed Yorkshire Puddings, that gorgeous fluffy vegetable that looks like it wants to be a potato but tastes oh so much better, and it goes well with oozy brown gravy and goes so well with beef.

Then I wanted Asparagus, again a green vegetable and well tasty followed by carrots and then brussel sprouts, both go so well with each other and taste good anyway you cook ‘em. In 8th spot I have ice-cream, any flavour really and then leeks, just cause I like the oniony flavour but it ain’t as aggressive and rounding up the top ten, I like pumikin, but only when it is cooked right, and you can keep your trombone. That ain’t Top Twenty material.

So listed it looks like:

Cabbage
Broccoli
Peas
Yorkshire Puddings
Asparagus
Carrots
Brussel Sprouts
Ice-Cream
Leeks
Pumikin.

I reckon Margaret will be on my side on that one, especially when drowned in gravy and sat alongside some nice Roast Beef, what vegetable doesn’t enjoy gravy and Roast Beef?

yeah but both milk and cream come from the non-pointy end of a cow, and in the opposite end you put green stuff like vegetables and grass. So milk and cream is just recycled vegetables, without the colour.

Popping cherry tomatoes as I read and surf the internet… tummy is hungry after laying in bed for an hour or 2.

Sure beats no-no food.

bluddy toms (if i could grow them – i’m getting 2 – 4 kilos per plant at best – i will need to build a specialised bed next summer and get water to them everyday and learn to prune them properly – grrr)
cancel toms – make it capsicums instead.

I agree, and I notice Happy Potter snacks on hers in the garden…I miss my cherry tomatoes…it’s amazing how only a couple will stop you from picking at “no-no” foods when getting lunch / dinner ready…

OK, I need to look it up anyway as I would be continually cropping once my new beds are up and going…I’ve often thought that if you were only going to plant the stuff (any stuff) once a year, like my father did, why would you need to rotate?

I mean, Dad planted strawberries in the same bed every year…they died over summer so we had strawberries come late winter, early spring…the same with the peas and beans and carrotts and beetroot and curcubits….and they thrived…

Pardon me for sounding dumb, but would crop rotation only apply if one plans to continually crop (no resting the garden bed for more than a month) ?

——————-
spell sunthin rong – than you will sound dumb LOL.
i rotate because it is fashionable to do so – but i also rotate chooks between crops. you can rotate green manure crops between harvests as well.
build up of soil nematodes and other soil diseases is the reason for rotating – and now farmers do it as well – because in the past whole countries have lost their crops due to soil disease.

what’s crop rotation got to do with your top ten vegies! Ruddy Hi-jackers…

And Beer is really a cereal crop, so pretty close to a vegetable.
If a Vegetarian is allowed to eat it then it must be a vegetable re: ice cream.
