“Moreover, the lightweight spacecraft would have to navigate independently and transmit its data to Earth by laser.”

And how is this lightweight spacecraft going to get enough power to transmit its data to Earth by laser?

It is almost more realistic to say that they’ll use Alpha Centauri’s light power to send it back to the solar system.

Although I love the idea of nano-spacecraft, the heat from the laser would fry this one in a millisecond.
A special reflective coating would help an enormous amount, these increase the reflectivity way beyond what is possible with a pure metal.
