I personally find the womens game more enjoyable to watch than the men, but why do they have 16 players instead of 18 for the men?

Serious?? The quality of the play is about the same as a country B league ..

But they have to start somewhere so good on them.. The skill level and pace will improve.
Gotta remember these ladies aren’t full time professional

Some leagues play 16 a side. The old VFA used to do it. No one on the wing.

Well, firstly they don’t have 18 men because they are women. Secondly, the AFL thinks 16 players reduces congestion…
