Can someone please remind me which programs are usually used to track down spyware or the like, that were regularly discussed and recommended on SSSF?

I remember CCleaner, but I don’t remember the other ones. And I’m having major problems with network speed, when I really shouldn’t be… (ie, streaming video to PS3 from laptop across a wireless network via the modem/router).

No idea where my internet speed went… I used to be able to download 50mb in about 10 seconds.

Now I’ve just done checked in with OzSpeedtest.com, and my line speed is now 501kbps (0.50 Mbps), and download speed 63KB/s (0.06 MB/s). That test took 150 seconds and downloaded 9mb.

I used to get faster than this on dial-up.

I’ve got one, I’ll have to check it out tomorrow. Getting up at 4am for work tomorrow, so I was planning for bedtime an hour ago.

Although I thought I’d try to run the same speed test from my mobile phone which is also on wireless, and has the same speed problem, so it seems it isn’t entirely a laptop issue (laptop has plenty of issues).

Now looks like I need to get on to my ISP to see if they’ve for some reason cut my speed.

Sorry, can’t help. I’ve only used CCleaner and Norton.

Last time I had serious computer problems I got a professional to reinstall Windows from scratch, and switched off all windows updates. No problems since.

MalwareBytes is a reasonable program to clean up low level issues. Gve it a try before you get into the resious cleaning.

I use CCleaner to reduce the number of files to be scanned, then defrag to tidy them. Then MalwareBytes.
I have MalwareBytes & windows Defender running in the background all the time.

As people have said, Malwarebytes. The other is Spybot Search & Destroy.

Oh – I use both in combination with an AV. My current AV is ZoneAlarm (as well as the firewall).
