Subject: Space Colony Art from the 1970s

Three space colony summer studies were conducted at NASA Ames in the 1970s. A number of artistic renderings of the concepts were made. These have been scanned and are available here as small, medium, large, and publication quality jpeg images. Scans by David Brandt-Erichsen.

Includes toroidal and cylindrical colonies and Bernal Spheres.

You placed two images in the OP. I am not able to see them: that is, they show the little square that in my browser indicates that the image file has not been found.

What browser are you using? They work in Chrome.

Just to check, I’ve deleted today’s history and files from Chrome and opened this thread again, and the pics are still there.

Belay my complaints, I had my security on too tight.

I do think it is somewhat quaint that they thought a space station would be made to resemble earth internally, with green hillocks and detached housing, rather than being ultra efficient and cramped.

Yes it’s quite charming. Most of the colonies in the gallery look like middle-class 1970s US suburbs, or country areas complete with nice old farmhouses etc.

Pictures and website both fail for me. Can’t see a thing. Chrome browser says “privacy error” and crosses the s off the https. It won’t connect if I change https to http, either.

Perhaps try
