I hope Smith is in Warner’s ear. He just needs to be there at lunch. He needs to be there at drinks. Warner needs time in the middle. This pitch is going to become a belter later today and day two. He needs to survive to make the most of it.

Smith is amazing me. His eye hand coordination is outstanding. He is hitting the ball far outside his body and eye. He is special.

Watching this test on Indian TV blows my mind. There is an ad for electrical wiring for houses that states” Wires that won’t catch fire”.

Almost as if fires are expected. And seeing the news here, it seems to be the case.

Australia dismissed India twice for about a hundred in the first match of the series

We’ve used up that ace already I’m thinking.

I predict India to win by 8 wickets.

Before the inception of the Border–Gavaskar Trophy in 96-7 which India and Australia have alternated in holding, of the 50 tests played from 1947 to 1996 Australia won 24 to India’s 8. So they are coming along.

Back then the umpires were appointed by the home nation.
When Peter Burge asked an old hand for advice on batting in India he was told ‘don’t get hit on the pads’

Course there was a series, some 12 years ago, that Australia won in India. Clarke, Martyn, Gillie, Katich, McGrath, Kaspro, Gillespie. Warne finally lost some weight and turned in a decent performance in the Subcontinent. Good times.
