Hey Hopper, not a great drive but no big deal really.
Plenty of H2O, good sleep and a reasonable level of fitness. As well as a certain lack of intelligence. Heh Heh.
(I think us westerners are getting a bit soft so a reality check is a good thing i reckon,) we drove past old, disused stone houses from the 1800’s where our forebears would’ve had to thrash out a living in that heat. Makes the drive seem rather easy really.

Yeah it is nice to not have to chop wood to cook and to be able to switch on a light.
Unfortunately we’ve become victims of comfort. I reckon it’s a basic reason behind the current world crisis. Everybody, chiefly in western countries, has had too much too easily. Some hard times must follow.
Anyway, i’ll eat some cement and harden up a bit.

Yeah got your new address. Ta. Didja also get a higher speed connection?

45C atm.
The chooks are behaving themselves in the laundry in an open box.
The air cons back on, it was a fuse prob. I have visitors for tea. I hope they like salads because I don’t cook on hot days.

Whew! 45’s no joke. Glad you got your A?C fixed!!
Yes, salads here too – a minimum of cooking.

37 here ATM. Could be a lot worse.

yeah, could be 43 like it is in Melbourne…

hi o40, nasty weather, isn’t it?

Sure is, BG. I hate sitting around waiting for it to cool down too. it’s boring. I’ve read a lot of books though! LOL

I guess on days like these it is not so bad spending the day in an airconditioned office…

I’ve been wondering if the baby honeyeaters are surviving. I’ll brave it out there with the camera soon. Poor little things.

I have seen diligent mums on hot days instead of sitting on their babies to keep them warm, they stand over them with wings spread to give them shade.

Well I’m afraid they’re dead. I can’t see up as high as the nest is, but I can reach up with my camera and take a “Blind” shot. They are lying very still and I think they’re not just asleep. :(:(

Ouch :(

I think we’re hoping to get a bit of weather on the tail end of the latest cyclone:

Saturday Late storm risk. Min 19 Max 33
Sunday Thunderstorm risk. Min 21 Max 35
Monday Thunderstorm risk. Min 22 Max 36
Tuesday Thunderstorm risk. Min 21 Max 32
Wednesday Possible storm. Min 22 Max 32
Thursday Fine. Min 22 Max 32

Should be nice! But out in the goldfields, they’ve got some pretty scary warnings – torrential rain, flash flooding, hail – they’ve been told to keep curtains shut, and pack up emergency supplies, photos etc in case they need to evacuate..

I was wondering why they should “keep the curtains shut”, but after reading that article, I see where they are pretty much to provide as much buffer as possible should the windows be blown/smashed in…I guess the security screens would be of some use in this scenario…

Talk about “bunkering down”…and sand in stockings!…like everybody has a sandpit out the back yard…but it is a good idea…

Hate to tell youse this, but it ain’t half cold up here…20C at 8:00 this morning…on the windowsill…cloudy with a steady, cooling southeasterly blowing…

Usually it’s the other way around…we’ve got the over-35C’s and night-time minimums of mid to high 20’s (if we’re lucky that it gets down that far)…I keep thinking it must be close to winter and then I remember we’re still in January…wierd!

Ohhh, I didn’t realise the sand was so prevalent…I thought you just had sand mixed with the soil…

Soil snort :D

I know there’s still quite a bit of variation – Muschee’s place is really different to my place – but an awful lot of it is just sand!

Feels like a slow cooker here.
I’m not whinging, we are used to these high temps , but as far as the garden goes, it’s not a matter of ‘it will recover’ its a matter of ‘start again’. The citrus trees out back will recover of course, but anything else won’t. Patio plants all dead. Maybe the tree fern will recover in time. Mini orchard might recover too, I hope.
Out in my front garden conifers that were green 3 days ago crumble to dust in my hand. The Acacia Cognatas are even burnt to a crisp and dead as dead plant can get. The A Cognatas out back around the pond are ok because they have a neighbours big shade tree behind them.
OK, so I will have to replace the front garden ,and already planning.. what what…don’t know. At the moment it’s just a big rockery with weeds.
If natives can’t handle it, what can ?

Very strangely, the rhubarb looks fab!!
