Hi All,
Hope it’s not too hot and yukky for you. 35c forecast today, so us hillbillies will most likely get 40

These little buggers are poppin up under a jarrah tree and not sure what it is or where it came from.
Maybe some birds have been spreading it. I get the feeling it’s nothing worthwhile.
But someone might be able to enlighten me. The leaves are very fluffy, it surprises me it looks so good for not getting any water. This area has recently been churned up too.

Arvo All, hope you’re keeping cool.

I have since realised this ‘weed’ is actually suckers from the roots of a paulownia tree.
They’ve been disturbed with some recent bobcat movement.
So what is the best way to stop these suckers coming up? Am I best to try and remove the offending root? I wonder if I will cause more damage doing this :(
I love the tree and don’t want to risk harming it.

I know people want to grow these and I understand that you like it.. However this is a similar story to Robiia.. Marketing hardy weeds to gullible plant lovers.. Any tree that suckers and isn’t a native should be sprayed with tree killer.

However.. if you dig carefully you can cut the offending root off back at the trunk and remove it. I don’t pay much attention to Paulowina but Robinia I have seen lots of suckering through the conccrete inside the closed garage. Pouring conctrete around the tree won’t stop it from suckering again and again though.

It’s the timber of choice for wooden surfboards too.
