Driving and alcohol
What is that name for eyes flickering back and forth while drunk?
how difficult would it be to teach drivers (who drink alcohol) to drive around on a track after they drink and the environment is turning around and they have lost their balance
yes they would be driving on alcohol, but on a test track.
A driving instructor would be in a special instruction car with two controls,
speed would be capped
each participant would be video tapped and their performance recorded
has this sort of testing been done before
if not would it have any benefits?
Drivers would get two sessions to see a comparison.

things like road attention, over-steer, late braking, wavering would be recorded by computer and printed

but can people do it now?
as in book a session today to see their before and after performance.

There’s a business idea.
Set up a private track, charge people big bucks to drive around sober and then drunk/stoned.
Wire ‘em up with some fake recording apparatus. Hand out a ‘report’ at the end, which shows their drunk/stoned performance as X-per cent worse than sober.
You only need one report, with a blank for the name to be filled in. How many of them are goingto compare their report with someone else’s?

it would be part of driver training
if people drink alcohol and smoke pot
get them on a track to see their own before and after performance
as part of driver education

yes its a business idea
but change the fake recording to real data recording

Gee, let’s keep it simple. After all, these people aren’t that bright – they’ve already admitted that they doubt that their performance will be degraded by drink or drugs.

What alcohol does to your driving ability isn’t rocket science. But you don’t need the infrastructure of a track and another person a special car etc you can do the same thing with a simulator

computer would plot eye tracking, over steer, late braking, late gear change and every other driver parameter.

That’s what my ‘report’ would tell them – along with the fact that they failed miserably.

One of the troubles of drink driving is that you’re not aware that you’re driving badly. People could be taught to drive more slowly when drunk, which is safer, but not safe enough.
When totally focused on driving sober, it is possible to anticipate and deal with the unexpected. This ability to both concentrate on driving at the same time as being aware of extraneous but important factors seems to be lost while drunk.
Air pilots can be trained to cope with cognitive impairments due to gee forces, which may (?) under certain circumstances be similar to impairments while driving drunk.

One of the funniest lines I have heard was by a guy who said, “well I guess I better drive myself home, I’m too pissed to walk” he then staggered out of the pub, he was a Yank, we were all impressed and laughed loud and long.

Agreed, but this “Seppo” announced it as though it was a “world first” discovery.

i’d guess a lot of being pissed is like being very tired and fatigued
a lot of being pissed is like being very tired too. In fact you know if you’ve been partying a few hours past your normal bedtime, good chance a lot of “drunk” is tiredness.
i save myself a few dollars and just do the sleep deprivation, then sleep in and no hangover.

The difference is that alcohol lowers inhibitions & drivers think they are more skillful than they really are.
