First Evidence That Psychedelics Cause a ‘Higher’ State of Consciousness Found by Scientists

Can we really elevate our brains to some kind of higher state of consciousness? New research suggests it might be possible – scientists have spotted evidence of a sustained and previously unobserved increase in neural signal diversity in people under the influence of psychedelic drugs.

Neural signal diversity is a sign of how complex the activity going on in our brain is – when we’re awake the diversity is greater than when we’re asleep. So the results are early evidence that there might be a whole new state of mind our brains could be capable of reaching.

In the vision centre for starters. I don’t think that would surprise anyone.

I would be looking fMRI scans across different psychedelic drugs.

given the executive maintains a bunch of inhibitions (the norm), it’s quite possible, and atleast some of the claims by users (of the sixties onwards) would probably be true (man, it unlocked my mind, I spoke with God). Some of it though would be brain damage from chemical insult, having overindulged or whatever, an overcooked batch of LSD maybe.

but then a good sleep probably results in a higher state of consciousness. And what of the twilight state. That’s interesting, probably like being on drugs (half asleep half awake, it’s called mescaline, neo). Don’t mind me there, I was just having a poke at a pharmacological hijack in the matrix. It’s full of ideology if you look into the rabbit hole).

And what’s a higher state of consciousness? Is it like electron orbits or something?

being able to connect things together, having insights into things, which were not possible before

being able to create art or compose music which were not previously possible

Yeah I see that. My point was the twilight state (dreamy states) might be similar.

With all the magic around drugs though, street drugs or from your doctor, and the cultural glorification of the chemical magic, an affected person might just wiz straight past quite natural things that tend something similar.

Like drunk people may exalt alcohol, yet the suppressant affects are probably (similar to) tiredness and sleep deprivation.

So, if there’s money somewhere to made by replacing sleep (mental states more broadly) with alcohol and drugs, it’d be a surprise if there weren’t ideas to help it happen (more).

Getting people to dream while they are awake would be a breakthrough

You set set imagination free.

External people could influence the dream.

All sorts of experiments could be possible.

I’m not sure (most) people don’t.

Whatever may not feel like dreams had while asleep, or waking from in the twilight state, or recalled when awake.

I have been known to dream while awake. When the dream is powerful enough it will overcome wakefulness.

I don’t know about art, but certainly in music, mind altering drugs have destroyed the capacity for creating great music far more than they have enhanced it.

Can the human brain/mind be enhanced without some major re-engineering ?
Disregarding illness/injury wouldn’t the brain work at close to peak efficiency.

I wonder what genius comes down to, is the neural structure of said individuals brain slightly different to the norm (whatever that is).

Have you watched Todd Sampson “Redesign my Brain”? – yes the human brain could be enhanced without major engineering.
You can draw the same conclusion from watching Derren Brown episodes.

Not for some people I know.

Also to the point, sometimes clearing the mind becomes a necessity. I want to see an MRI proof of the following Farside cartoon.

I wonder if that’s enhancement or getting the brain to work how it should instead of at sub par efficiency due to stress, lack of time/training/education, etc.

Kind of yeah
I wonder how many people get excited by learning new things every day even if it’s just reading science articles. I can imagine the drudgery of routine be it work and/or home life dulls you brain so many of its abilities atrophy (so to speak).
