OK, next question.

How can i get Flash player installed in Ubuntu?

Everything i find about it tells me to go to the Ubuntu Software Centre, which downloads a .deb package to my PC, and that’s as far as it goes.

I try to get gdebi so i can unpack that, and it again refers me to the Software Centre, where any attempt to click on the one clickable tab produces only a message that ‘package gdebi is virtual’. Like that means anything.

Anything from the software centre is designed to unpack and install all by itself…

There are a bunch of restricted extras that you might want to download though…

Maybe you have to go full virtual.

Design is one thing.

Actual performance is another.

Also tried to install Chrome. It LOOKS like it installs it, but Chrome can’t be found anywhere in the Ubuntu screen/options.

Well, it sort of worked.

I now have a Chrome icon, but a click on it takes me to an entirely blank screen with a quite fetching purple background.

I think if you right click the icon thing when it opens you can then pin it. Not sure of the exact terminology as I’m not in front of the ubuntu computer at the moment…

Where might i find these restricted extras, please?

Software centre, type in ubuntu restricted extras…

That’s a most productive enquiry. It produces a list of 637 items. ‘Restricted extras’ narrowed it down to 65 items. I found ‘Ubuntu restricted extras’ and clicked on it. That took me to an apps directory page, with one clickable tab saying it’s available on the Software Centre (no kidding?).

Click on the tab produces the message ‘Could not find package ‘ubuntu-restricted-extras’.

And thus, the circle is completed.

Where did you make that enquiry? In the software centre? Something wrong if software centre gives you that many items for that…

sudo command produced the result:

Looks like that little item is dead.

I’m afraid it still couldn’t find the restricted extras package, even after all that.

Anyway….

…are you familiar with how to grant a page ‘permissions’ in Firefox in Ubuntu?

OK, i now have Flash player on Ubuntu.

Went to a flash games page, clicked on their ‘get Flash’ tab.

It downloaded and set itself up very quickly.

I’m sure that the updates and upgrade facilitated this.

Thanks for all that.

Sometimes you can look without seeing.
I searched for ages to find a way of reducing the dpi resolution of an image.
The damn button was in the menu I’d looked at50 times.
