thank you for the new chat thread VG – you do awake early.
its cooled considerably here north of adelaide.
gully breezes last night and 8 hours solid sleep.
…then a frantic watering session. my wife didn’t have breakfast first – so she was frantically doing everything before breakfast – and i’m not sure you can legitimately speed up hand watering.
buddlejas needed water and so did the natives.
i’ve given up on – onions (harvested), pumpkins, toms, climbing beans (all dead).
Morning pepe and lurkers.
Yep insects are on the march. White tail spiders galore. Max is getting his excercise chasing moths.
But it’s the invasion of the ants this morning here.
——————-
did you beat the ants?
cupboard doors and shelves seem to get dirty even though everything in them has been cleaned..
there are millions of tiny biting ants out in the native corner. they were all over me and the watering cans this morning.

Morn Pepe, one of the ant baits is working well, but so far the others are being bypassed by the ants. I’ll leave them be though, they will soon find the jars. I had to spray the laundry again this morning, they were going across the ceiling.
Morning All,
I hope you’re all a bit cooler now as we are. We even got a short light shower earlier. I was up a ladder picking nectarines, it had stopped by the time I came down.
8 bottles of fruit so far and more to come from the tree. I’ll have to buy some more bottles!
HP, we had ants running across the floor and up my leg while I was eating dinner. Nobody invited them. Couldn’t work out where they were coming from.

Hi Orchid :)
Yes cooler here thank goodness.
The ants are coming in for food and moisture. Hubbys saying if they don’t decrease soon we might call the pest bloke. I’d rather not do that though.
Washing day, water being recycled, and I have to go out soon for chooks grain supplies.

They’re everywhere. I’ve given up in the kitchen, they can have it. The cats food isn’t safe anywhere and I’m even finding them in my bed.
One just ran across the puter screen.
Oops.. better move myself into Feb.. :( It’s too soon for Feb!!!
Just watching last night’s GA – I like what they’ve done with the intro.

There’s plenty of moisture outside here and we’ve still got hundreds. :(

Did anyone else notice, this week and next week, Josh’s segments on GA look like they’ve come straight from Vasili’s Garden?? :D

There’s a mass exodus from the kettle when I switch it on !!
I’ve just re-planted 3 of the spud pots, as I had some shooting in the pantry again :)
Sowed seeds of red lettuce, basil, beetroot, radish, in main vegie bed.
Bought in 3 more cauliflowers (Groan……)
It’s very humid, doesn’t make you throw yourself into hard work!
R&R time.
Later.

we have ants everywhere too. as soon as I stop them coming in one place they find another way in…
I’ve done a bit more outside, and got mozzie bites all over my legs :(
We have a big Avocado which has never had fruit, and it was being hidden by an Umbrella tree which thought it was in the tropics. Half the U.T. is gone and daylight can reach a Firewheel Protea which may give it the ability to flower next year. I trimmed back a huge Philodendron which was hiding a garden tap and who knows what else. I’ve now got a lot of shredding to do :( Or mowing.
It’s still and humid here and every now and then a few raindrops fall.
arvo peoples, still hot but not as hot !
Hi Thee and BG and anyone else.

Hello all. I have returned. We have a new baby granddaughter. Her name is Elzaan and she weighed in at 8lb9oz. Too cute for words. Not that I’m biased or anything.
So sorry for you southerners with your on going heat wave. Victoria with the fires and now Nth Qld with floods. For once I seem to be living in the right place.
It’s good to be back home and there is heaps to do. Vegie garden is almost ready to plant up. On the whole all plants are thriving. (weeds too) MrP has managed to get staghorn spore to take on an old piece of treefern bark. There are thousands of them in the initial stage of growth. I will have to do some web research on the best way to take them from this point.
Thanks everyone for the emails while I was away. I had a good read.
Take care. Back later on.
Howdy Bluegreen. How are you coping with the heat and fires etc?

no fires near me thank God, but I am all over with the heat!
My garden is crispy and Melbourne’s Super Colony of ants have all taken refuge in my kitchen!!
BRING ON WINTER is all I can say! Mr BG is planning to move to the south island of NZ and is trying to convince all our friends to come with us :)

good weight there Pomolo, something you can hold on to…Elzaan eh? wonder where that came from?
Good evening. Reporting in from the ever lovely Queensland. Beautiful one day, Perfect the next or something like that.
I can see by the posts that you were all pretty quiet today. Must be the heat. Kind of drains you eventually I know.
We had a fine day here today. First rain free day for a week or so. Only fine drizzly rain though. Not much in the guage to show for it all. The humidity is still with us. Kinda feels like something has got to give eventually to clear the air. Probably the now reforming Cyclone Ellie will bring some relief.
Off now to read the few posts that represent Tuesday 3rd Feb.
Elzaan eh? wonder where that came from?
—————————
The name came from a swedish lady Doctor who treated MrP one night when we had an emergency trip to the Hospital. She insisted that we call her by her cristian name and to not refer to her as Doctor.
cristian = christian
Well reading the posts didn’t take long. Tea is on. Roast Lamb. Yummmm. Bye!

It’s El… as in that famous Aussie model, Elle. Zaan…as in zarn. BTW, her second name is Viva after my Mother. Pronounced V(eye)va. Have you noticed that your children all have a burning desire to be different and that’s why they all do the same things like try to give their kids unusual and sometimes wierd names.

Morning. Congrats Pom. I didn’t follow family tradition when naming my children. I wanted them to be individual, but they were “standard” if not common, names. My granddaughter’s name is Anastasia so again a “normal” but uncommon name.

One of my friends picked what I thought were really odd, Kath n Kim style names for her first baby… then I found out the names came from her Greek heritage on her mum’s side. Not so Kath n Kim after all :)

For a good likeness.
The flowers are about the size of a Frangipani but the fragrance is unbelievable. In the stillness of the early morning the perfume hangs in the air even though our house is a long way from the tree. It’s having it’s 3rd or 4th flush of blooms for the season and we can almost become drunk on that perfume. A highly recommended tallish tree if you have the climate and the room.
