Subject: Changing Wave File Metadata

A while ago, I obtained .wav files from a CD that I created as a recording of a vinyl record. At the time, I chose generic filenames such as Track 1.wav, Track 2.wav, etc for the files. Recently, I changed the filenames to something more appropriate to the name of the tracks on the vinyl record. Unfortunately the metadata retains the original generic names and I am unable to change these or any other of the metadata using Windows Explorer. Does anyone here know how I can change this metadata?

I don’t use wav files or windows explorer but when I edit meta data I use a meta data editing program instead of editing the files directly…

You can change the metadata with this program

http://www.mp3tag.de/en/

http://www.mp3tag.de/en/

It supports wav and a variety of other file formats.

If I need to change metadata on music, I import the file into Audacity and then save it with the correct metadata (date, composer etc).

I was hoping that changing the metadata would not involve rewriting the entire wavefile, but I suppose this is too much to ask. If I need to rewrite the entire file, then I may as well redo getting the file from the created CD (although I do see advantages of editing the metadata of the original wavefiles even if it does involve rewriting the entire wavefile).
