The Holovect Draws 3D Images In The Air Using Light

Visual learners better get excited because Holovect Industries created an exciting, futuristic gadget.

The Holovect Mk II is a display system that can sit right at your workbench with the capability of using light to draw 3D images in the air. This device can be used for educational purposes or be hooked directly to a 3D printer.

Not sure how this works, but one possibility would be to fire a water droplet in a specific direction (like in an ink-jet printer) and then a precisely calculated time later fire a laser in the exact same direction so that only that one water droplet is lit by the laser. Repeat the process for a pseudo-still image.

By changing the time between droplet firing and laser you get an R2D2 style animation, and by changing the laser colour you get a coloured moving image.

I’m not sure how this works but the description given in the article is complete nonsense.

“The minds behind this device have invented a box-shaped region which controls the air to modify the refractive index (RI) of materials to specifically reflect and refract a laser beam. Having authority of a modified column of air as well as the laser beam’s direction, a volumetric pixel is produced by a computer in a 3D capacity. “

Also, why would someone with such a great product need kickstarter? Any venture capitalist would jump at this unique idea.
So I’m calling bullshit.

It sounds similar to those screens you see projected in mid air in scif movies, except those one act like an interactive touch screen as well

Okay, they are just using high velocity water mist. It’s nothing to do with “modifying the refractive index of air”.

Pretty basic idea, nothing too weird about it, but the bullshit description makes it sound hokey.
