Jerry Seinfeld,
The only actor in history so bad that he can’t even play himself.
I’m tempted to say ‘Oliver Reed- the only actor so bad that he could ONLY play himself’.
Interesting movie facts
In Alfred Hitchcock’s movie The Birds the character Cathy Brenner was played by the actress Veronica Cartwright, who was the sister to Angela Cartwright, the actress who played the part of Penny Robinson in the series Lost in Space.
On second thought, i’d have to say – Madonna.
Never seen another actor so utterly convinced that her mere presence in the production made the whole thing wonderful, or who so obviously put so little effort into portraying a character.

I put it to you that, no matter how bad they are, anyone who is widely known can not possibly be the worst actor ever…
given the subjectiveness of the topic, this is going to be a long thread
Maybe we should put on a play…

Reminds me of the Huckleberry Hound cartoon where he was supposed to be ‘The Man of a Thousand Faces’.
Near the cartoon’s start, the narrator asks to see one of his faces. Huckleberry tugs at the corners of his mouth, sticks out his tongue, and rolls his eyes.
Near the end, the narrator asks for another face. Huckleberry pulls the same face. When questioned on this, he replies, “well, until now, no-one ever asked to see more than one’.
I don’t even know the criteria on which to judge good or bad acting. Apart from not being wooden when they say their lines, and most of them pass that to star in a feature film or major network TV show.

or at leas turn it into a play.. then once it’s been going for a season or two we can invite the actors to come watch and perhaps morph it into a TV series with cameo appearances.

Generally, i’d agree. Except for ‘Blue Hawaii’, where he seemed to be both making a creditable effort at and enjoying his role in a very lightweight romantic comedy.
I suppose it became a bit formulaic for him in following movies.

Yeah, she’s over-rated. If you could teach a fashion-store mannequin to speak, her career would be under threat.
In fairness, Seinfeld never claimed to be an actor. He’s a standup comedian who took his act into a sitcom format.
It seems reasonable to suppose that the worst actor ever is someone we’ve not heard of, someone who never became famous.
So it might be more meaningful to restrict it to successful actors, and people primarily known for their acting (ie not Justin Bieber or Andre the Giant etc).
I think Matthew McConaughey is a remarkably untalented person considering his acclaim. I’ve never seen him do a good job, and it is basically always the same shit. Normally this kind of thing could be put down to someone having great looks but he had an old lady face even in his thirties.

Seinfeld did start out as an actor but went into stand up instead because he liked it better. He got a degree in theatre studies.
Personally I don’t think any of the worst macho-men actors are worth watching – John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Stallone, Arnie etc.

Nicole Kidman did a great job on Dr Who. Much better than some of the companions he’s had.
And Matthew Mcconaghy did a great job in Home Alone.
You can’t call an actor the worst ever if they did a good job once.

I keep expecting him to reprise that role and jump on couches in any movie that I catch mr kii watching. So I have to leave the room, because it was so embarrassing.
I don’t rate tom cruise highly but he’s not the worst.
Nicholas cage is much much higher.
Two more I’d put in complaints about are Kevin Costner and Richard Gere. Not bad bad in the McConaughey category but 99% of the time they just show up and read their lines.

I used to like JD, but certainly his rendition of apology to the government and people of Australia must be down there as one of the worst performances ever.
Although I maintain that we cannot possibly know the name of the worst actor ever, if we keep it to “well known” people then Donald Trump has 25 “Actor” credits on IMDB and I counted 19 of those where he was playing himself…
I think Johnny Depp has become like Tom Cruise in that his public persona has become bigger than the roles.

There’s still quite a few stand up/ sit down comedians that I like, but I was trying to think of a recent comic actor I had enjoyed, and I couldn’t think of any.
So then I tried to think of a recent comedy film/play/tv that I had enjoyed, and I couldn’t think of any of those either.

I think Black Books would be about the most recent.
Yep, BB was great show.

I can’t see the resemblance. He has long, thin hair and is clean shaven. I have short-cropped dense hair and haven’t had a shave in about 40 years.

Bill Bailey has always had a beard & moustache, as far as I recall.
Well, maybe not when he was a child.

Maybe it’s the mischievous twinkle to the eye.
(or maybe it’s the dumb and vacant look :))

Well there you go. Shows how much notice I take of actors.

Quite right, Mr Car. I was wrong (again). His beard is trimmed-edge stylish though. Mine’s not.

Isn’t it about time he came home?

I don’t even know the criteria on which to judge good or bad acting.
One reasonable criterion is the level of skill they demonstrate in their acting… which brings me to the OP:

OMG
By what criteria do you make this assessment? I think he does quite well to memorise some of the lines that Sheldon speaks.

I still say Jerry Seinfeld is worst ever. Or second worst. At least JS doesn’t make the rest of the cast look worse than they are. There’s one sci-fi futuristic TV show for kids which would be good except for the actor called “marsupial” who dresses up as a kangaroo, he makes all the other (quite decent) actors in the show also look like abysmal actors.
Ever watched the actors in “Amazing extraordinary friends”.
Worst scriptwriter I know is the scriptwriter for “Ocean Girl”, or as I like to call it, “Wall to Wall Cliche”.
Sheldon is a marvellous actor. But he did make a complete and utter mess of memorising the lines that listed the nearest stars as he was walking down the stairs.
Other abysmal actors.
The Brady Bunch TV series. All 8 family members.
Star Trek original series. Every crew member who got killed off.
Gilligan’s island. Ginger.
Dr Who. The companion Nyssa.
