Here’s How The Welfare Drug Tests Will Work

CANBERRA — It was one of the smaller programs announced in Tuesday’s budget, but the one that has caused the biggest firestorm of controversy. A trial program to drug test 5000 recipients of Youth Allowance and Newstart in three as-yet-undisclosed locations from January 2018, with a positive result for cannabis, ecstasy or methamphetamines to push the welfare recipient onto the cashless debit card income quarantining measure.

Positive drugs test could mean up to two years’ income managment for welfare recipients

A senate hearing has been told the welfare recipients who test positive to drugs under the Federal Government’s proposed trial could have their income managed for up to two years. The trials at three separate sites are due to begin next year, and will test 5,000 welfare recipients for cannabis, ice and ecstasy use. The Department of Social Services says it expects 425 people to test positive, and 120 of those to fail a second test, which will be the trigger to refer them for treatment.

What bothers me with this is will they look at the underlying reasons why these people are choosing a substance.

Is it a sign of an underlying problem?

Has the government thought about this?

Here are my underlying reasons for choosing cannabis, and note that I have Aspergers

1 Cannabis takes away my anger toward the world.

2 Cannabis takes away my suicidal thoughts.

3 Cannabis takes away my rumination.

4 Cannabis calms my over active mind down.

5 Cannabis helps with pain management.

6 Cannabis helps me to calm down in crowds.

7 Cannabis can help with optimism about the future.

Removing cannabis from my life brings back all these problems.

I will state here that I am fed up with the Federal Governments and State Governments rules on personal use

If the police or government take away my medical rights I will end my life.

If the underlying reasons why people turn to certain substances are not looked at, then those problems with those people will continue.

How does that make a better world?

My sarcasm detector is not working.

Looking at the underlying reasons and treating that would help people.

Otherwise it just seems destructive to those people who have turned to a substance for a reason
