Subject: Staghorn

We were given a baby staghorn yesterday (without mounting board). Just one question…would it matter if we used coir peat instead of spaghnum moss when mounting it? Our local nursery is closed on Suns (would you believe it???) and I’d like to get it fixed up today if possible, so that we don’t lose it.

Doesn’t matter what you use .. from banana peels to cow pats.

Just tie it up somewhere and water it with liquid fert.

Yes I remember the old banana peel trick once established, but just wasn’t sure to start of with. Thanks RB

I think the idea is the provide something to hold moisture – in the wild it would be leaf mulch from leaves off the host tree I expect.

My 2cents worth if I can. Just don’t make it anything that will hold water for any length of time. The stag will rot.
