Hi folks, I’ve just made a update to the internals of the forum. It’s now running on version of Django that’s not 5 years old.
Let me know if you find anything that’s not working.
Also, I think the update might have logged everyone out. Sorry about that :)

It looks like some images are no linger displayed. This post by roughbarked
https://tokyo3.org/forums/holiday/posts/1080133/
which consists of a link to flickr, comes up as blank. This post by mollwollfumble,

Conversely, this post from buffy,

If you’re on a Windows machine, after clicking on “reply” in your browser, open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder with the photo you want to upload. Left-click on that photo, and, holding the left mouse button down, move the pointer into the reply window in your internet browser, and release the mouse button.

Yes, I know. I’ve got a paper based mind.
Right-click… copy image address and then right-click paste in the forum window.
This is what I do with the letters. I thought it must be different from drag and drop. I don’t quite follow btm – I’ll think about it.
check the size of the image first cos anything over 2mb wont upload.

It’s only accepting images at the moment, but there’s no reason other types won’t work. I’ll put it on the list.

I tried a smaller one and that didn’t work. I hadn’t realized the first one was 4M. I should have, I haven’t fiddled with it yet.

Yes, I know. I’ve got a paper based mind.
If you’re on a Windows machine, after clicking on “reply” in your browser, open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder with the photo you want to upload. Left-click on that photo, and, holding the left mouse button down, move the pointer into the reply window in your internet browser, and release the mouse button.
But if the photo is somewhere else on this computer? Not online.

To drag and drop, just click on the thumbnail, holding down left mouse button all the while. Move it from its window into the forum window and dumb it in the submit box.
Wait until the url appears in the box, then submit.

Looks very impressive, but there are usually less than 1/2 dozen annual species in these displays. Someone asked me for details of where to find such a display, and was disbelieving when I said nowhere around Esperance. You need to travel to the Kalgoorlie region (400 km north) before you find such concentrated coloured landscapes, but when the plants die down, the soil is red and barren with very little vegetation. Quite a transformation!

It’s very important that FB does that. Strips the original file name etc off.

Yep.
Search engines can still find images like that, because they’re linked from pages that the search engine has already found. The spiders don’t operate by guessing URLs, they just follow links.

Is anyone else finding they keep trying to press the new ‘Upload’ button to Submit?
Yes!
Bugger. I just did it again trying to post this :(
Fair enough. I’ll move it above the text input instead.

>How the hell is a search engine supposed to find that.
It’s very important that FB does that. Strips the original file name etc off.
Those addresses are like a code, to make the privacy/audience settings work. You can’t even guess the next one in a group of photos.
Very important.
Bull-shit.
It is essential to be able to guess the next one in a group of photos. It’s been very useful to me many times, for my own photos as often as those of other people.
Just imagine if the same was applied to song titles on Napster and elsewhere. There would never have been a Napster if original titles were fuckin destroyed by the uploader.

No. otherwise whenever a pic from FB was put up anywhere everybody would have full access to all that person’s pics.

cb, would you mind putting the Upload button underneath somewhere.. maybe along from Preview. As it is now it further limits the height of the white field that is visible when entering text on tablet.

No. Ir says upload, not submit. No problems here.
