The little buggers got under my fence and ate all my cabbage and broccoli which were doing really well considering the neglect and lack of water I was giving them.

They left the spuds alone though.

I know they despise onion and coriander.

What else do folks know of that’s possum proof.

I’ve heard that people use Lapsang Souchong tea. Quassia Chips, bought at a Chemist shop. There is a commercial product calld Poss Off. and another hint is to keep a light on the bed in question. Another one I have heard about is to put largish stuffed toys in the garden because possums become wary of them. I haven’t used any of these things but they are probably worth a try if your having possum problems.
I remember we used to get asked this same question on the old ABC forum so I had them written down.

For about $150, I believe you can set up a battery-powered electric fence…may cost a bit more…they’ve only got to touch it and only starvation would entice them back again…

We have a dog-proof fence (she can’t jump, she can helicopter but not jump forward): it has about 5 tapes (one long tape going back and forth the distance 5 times) up to about 2 foot in height. Ours is on mains power, but I have seen a fully battery-powered one-tape affair up the hill that contains 5 horses for the day…

Worth a try…Longy might be able to give you a clearer picture…

Deploy possum traps and remove the possums to somewhere in the bush.

They’ll be back.. you only have to get them out of the roof long enough to affect repairs that keep them out.

If they raid your garden every night.. cover the stuff you want to keep and allow them free access to other more natural foods.

and.. it isn’t illegal to take a trapped possum to the NP&WS especially if it is in a trap that you got from them.

Nice idea.

We already live in the bush, that’s why we have possums in the first place :)
