To understand human consciousness, we need to know why it exists in the first place. New experimental evidence suggests it may have evolved to help us learn and adapt to changing circumstances far more rapidly and effectively.

We used to think consciousness was a uniquely human trait, but neuroscientists now believe we share it with many other animals, including mammals, birds and octopuses. While plants and arguably some animals like jellyfish seem able to respond to the world around them without any conscious awareness, many other animals consciously experience and perceive their environment.

It is a play if you want because many words need a context to see.
and if it is in context then you are concsious of it.
If concsiousness is the awareness of all that surrounds you, then in reality this is what you actually get through each day whether you stand naked on a stone facing north under the full moon or not.

That’s interesting, what you said. So maybe many people tend to only visit maximum awareness, they wouldn’t like to make it their home.
Some of those same people may like to visit their extended awareness on you, through ideological idealizations, and render you a servant to them (via the idealizations).

Some people have greater awareness than others, and it can be across many different fields.

Consider people who can remember more landscape details than others.

Rally drivers who remember minute details of roads and timing turns, predicting whats coming next etc.

People who can remember details of music or details of a book or artworks.

Isn’t it an odd thing to be able to hunt around in ones own head, for memories, for feelings, for tools. Well, maybe to consider that might be aided by temporarily thinking of it as odd. Just doing that – trying to make it seem somewhat odd – could be an example of hunting, a trick. I could do that to fuck with the automated aspects, to unhide them. It could turn out like a loose spanner in a running gearbox, we’ll see.

I say hunting rather than summon, because sometimes it’s a work more like hunting.

Often I hunt for stumps for the fire, or hunt down my tools i’ve left around the place after a machine repair. Or the shovel that’s wandered out of the ute into the garden someplace.

Hunting internally to me seems similar. Finding whatever. Of course the things inside (my head) aren’t found by images of some internal terrain, it’s a different sort of terrain, more involving a feel-sense. Probably closer to feeling around with eyes closed, or in the dark.

I’m using the word hunting and exploring the possibility our ancestors hunting-for-food (shelter too, and mates) mental tools happened upon a few accidents over time with benefits.

When looking internally you don’t have to know exactly what you are looking for, and it’s all in the cranium anyway, very near, how far do you have to look? Very near and familiar. Handy really.

So what sort of accident of proximity/presence detection might result in enhanced internal hunting?
