From the Tiser again….

TORRENS Lake is a stinking mud hole this morning – and is unlikely to refill until more rain – after an electrical fault overnight drained it of millions of litres of water.

The malfunction opened the weir gates, causing water levels to drop by more than two metres.

Adelaide City Council staff were forced to manually wind the weir shut to stop water rushing out.

SMS your photos to 0429 078 685, or email them to yourpics@adelaidenow.com.au

Parts of the lake are entirely without water, revealing tonnes of rubbish – including bikes, a car body and witches’ hats – on the bottom of the Lake.

Adelaide City Council says an investigation is underway but it appears an electrical malfunction caused the gate to open.

And the council warned that the lake may remain without water for an extended period.

“The lake is unlikely to refill until water flows from the catchment area upstream following a rainfall event,” the council said in a statement.

“The higher sections of the lake have been the worst affected, with the bottom of the lake now visible in several locations.’‘

Council environmental officers will assess the lake this morning to determine the overall impact on the lake and areas surrounding it.

Though there was BGA in one of the dams here. Took a sample and had it tested..thankfully it wasn’t – but even at the 1st look the tester thought it was too.

Ended up being some harmless kind that went away when the rains came.

Its a bit slow loading up for me…not sure if it’ll be the same for you. Great photos at the end of the car up to the roof …under mud.

Loaded pretty quick here…

Gosh the Popeye’s and paddle boats look out of place sitting on sludge.

Where did that car come from??!! What loon put it there I wonder.

Can’t get over all the junk that’s in there. Adelaide city council needs to give it a jolly good clean out whilst the water level is down.

Hmmm Welcome to Adelaide =o[

2 metres….

Look at that junk! An old pedestal fan, who would’ve thunk it?

Is this water used, or is it just part of the parks and gardens scenery?

No shopping trollies, that’s something…always a few in our local waterways…and yes there were car bodies too, until Clean Up Australia Day was invented and implemented…

Well by the looks of things it’s a wonder nobody has been injured … going to be a bit hard to explain this to the resident wild life (birds, etc)… and rowers are generally addicted to their sport…
