the we thing got a bit much there toward the end of the article, but it’s true life on earth’s only been radio rather briefly.
funny the we invitation, like there’s a loneliness here potentially (risk of) turning to God as an explanation, that the big fella might’ve only made one planet with life, or conscious life that asks the big questions.
what would it mean anyway, of the unlikelihood the rest of the universe were mostly inorganic? Inanimate.
in-great-part what gives people their reality here on earth might be said to be just that, sorta that understood to be that way sterile of nature, like gravity and light, boring stuff with no brain, not a thought at all.
moment to moment humans assume other humans they know are still alive, so I can’t see why it necessary for a moment to think ET never existed or all are dead, just from lack of immediate evidence.
ET may be just happy to have another far off species assume they exist, and remain undiscovered, undefined.
ET might be reclusive, a complete hermit.
“There’s 300 billion stars, we now know that virtually every star has a planet, so 300 billion times two or five or whatever you want — that’s a lot of planets,” he said.
“Just from those numbers, some number of intelligent civilisation.”
No.
If the probability of a life form developing that can build machines capable of sending messages that can be received and read here is say, 1 in 300 trillion, then it is highly unlikely that such a life form exists in our galaxy, quite apart from the so called great filter.
Why most people who comment on this subject just ignore this obvious fact, I don’t know.

They probably don’t want to be alone.

Yes, it’s not really “mysterious” that we haven’t received any messages, unless you assume the empirical evidence says we should be receiving messages. But there is no such evidence.
We know of only one technologically advanced civilisation in the universe and that only came into being in the last few hundred years.
There are no aliens only machines
The machines always rise up and destroy the organic lifeforms that create them. The machines are aware of the organics but ignore them as they are no threat to them and will be wiped out by their creation anyway.

If we assume that advanced civilizations are only around for 1,000 years before they do something very stupid and die out, and we use the current estimates of goldilocks planets of the universe. How many possible civilizations might there be spread over 10 billion years (giving them time to develop) that could be around at the same time?
Does the human species really think that an alien species would visit a hostile species like humanity?
That’s the great filter.

On the other hand, (to borrow from Groucho Marx), do we really want to join a club that would have people like us as members?
>a hostile species like humanity?
lotta luv happenin’ too, don’t you be forgettin’ now.
you sensing you maybe sexually incompatible with ET, Tau.Neutrino

I wonder how many orgasms the human species has every day?
Just imagine all those orgasms all around the world, must have been at least 7.5 billion really good ones.
>…/cut/… 7.5 billion…/cut/….
call me antisocial, it’s not something that occupies my mind at all.

Somewhere around 50% of the participants would probably agree.
Some of the other 50% might say ‘hmm…well…’. And some of them were faking it.

Naaaah.
It is estimated that more than 200 million girls and women alive today have undergone female genital mutilation in the countries where the practice is concentrated. Furthermore, there are an estimated 3 million girls at risk of undergoing female genital mutilation every year. The majority of girls are cut before they turn 15 years old

It certainly is disturbing that this still goes on.

Its a form of sexual abuse,
But is it genetic, chemical, learned? all three?
By chemical I mean is there some underlying chemical reason we don’t know about yet, or groups of people controlling chemicals ?
Pheromones in the air, that kind of thing, smells in clothing, etc
>Its a form of sexual abuse.
banging on about it might be too

The church bangs on about it all the time.
