Evenin’ all :)

I am hearing over time suggestions of more and more movies that I haven’t seen. I’m trying to catch up, and as an example I say Terminator for the first time about a month ago.

I’m really not interested in seeing things like The Sound Of Music or Titanic, but I’d like to find a longer list of ‘big’ movies that I haven’t seen yet that I probably should watch at some point. Work is very quiet at the moment and I’m only working about 20 hours per week (down from 75hrs/wk earlier this year).

Any suggestions on classic and popular movies would be appreciated :)

I think it’s interesting that the words “classic” and “popular” do not have the same connotations in movies that they do in music.

A list of classic movies is huge, you can go for directors, you can’t go far wrong with Tarantino or the Coen bros, Sergio Leone for spaghetti westerns, Clint Eastwood and whats his face from Happy Days.

Go to someplace, like IMDb and look up a movie like, for example, Terminator and they have a section where “People who liked this also liked… “ and follow the trail…

But don’t take too much attention of what the IMDB contributors say. I have found they have a tendency to take movies that are intended to be an enjoyable diversion without too much thinking waaaaay too seriously.

And to put it out there, forget the Tom Cruise haters as well, he does some good stuff.

One that won’t be on many lists as a classic or popular is the fantastic “The Boondock Saints”..

I think it was diddly who raved about it last year after seeing it. My take was “how haven’t you seen this before?” The movie dates from 1999 and Billy Connolly has a cameo appearance in it.

And as for the Tom Cruise thing…. I’m really not a fan of his stuff at all, with the exception of Valkyrie… brilliant movie.

Bad Boy Bubby

It’s a heartwarming tale of a young man travelling with his cat and finding his place in the world after than unfortunate death of his parents. Has many classics quotable lines such as “That be mum, that be pop, and this be cat.”, “Well, if that’s all there is, we’re stuffed” and “Christ kid, you’re a weirdo”.

I was silly enough to watch it twice, first time I thought that’s a famous classic, beauty. I was very underwhelmed, didn’t even finish watching it. It came around again years later and I thought, no, must be a reason it’s a classic, I will give it another go. It was even more boring the second time.

Don’t have a movie list. Do have a list of books based on movies that are better than the movies.

The book “Buffy the vampire slayer” is better than the movie – genuine humour & less horror
The book “Star Trek, the motion picture” is much better than the movie
The book “ET” is as good as the movie
The book “Shrek” is almost as good as the movie

Morning all.
The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul Marat as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton Under the Direction of the Marquis de Sade, usually shortened to Marat/Sade, is a 1963 play by Peter Weiss. The work was first published in German.
After the play it was made into a movie in 1967.
