I saw on the weather channel that the rains from the weather system in Qld will be moving down the NSW coast so you could be in for a lot more rain VG, even flooding.

“Hey Marge. the rains are ‘ere.” We got 40 mls in the last 24 hours. Not as much as predicted but we didn’t have the wild winds either.

I’ve been out enjoying myself pulling out the tough weeds that hate to let go when the ground is dry. I just luv the sucking squelch they make on the way out after there’s been rain. Doesn’t work the same when you hose it wet tho.

Bought a new lounge suite today and a new rug to go with it. The lounge is a brown and I have dared to buy a cream and brown rug. I have never had pale white/cream/beige colours in any of my furnishings because I just don’t have a white/cream/beige type of family. It’ll probably send me to my grave stressing over it now I’ve got it. The dog will be the biggest problem because she is black with long hair. MrP, I can take to with the rolling pin if he dares to walk on it with his boots on. Grrrr!

I’ve got a lovely doona cover in the cupboard, all white with embroidery and drawn thread work. It’s never been on the bed because I wasn’t thinking about the black cat when I bought it. What a dill brain.

There was an article in the local yodel about the cotton farmers would like the weather to dry up thank you very much…now’s the time they’re looking at starting to harvest…if the ground would only dry up so the harvesters can get in…

We just had a beauty of a storm. Brother! did it rain? 65mls in less than 30minutes. There were mini rivers with rapids all over the property. Tanks were over flowing. (thank you God) A bit sad to watch all the excess run off going on to who knows where. Hopefuly tomorrow will be a bit cooler now.

Up to 71mls in the preceding 12 hrs. Wonderful! More on the way by BoM radar. I have been for a scout around and we now have 3 new cycads up and growing. I think I planted about 5 pups so it’s going well. Also have a bud on a lily that I have been waiting to see for a few years now. I did try to have it ID by leaf description but to no avail. So now we shall see what we shall see.
From a damp around the edges Pomolo.

We’ve had some very decent rain…followed a cotton module into town the other day…we nearly didn’t recognise it…somebody must be picking early…the Wet will end some time in March, so hopefully there is more coming to keep the soil moisture profile in good nick for the coming dry months…

what’s a cotton module?

A cotton module is created when they harvest the cotton. When the little “catcher” on the tractor is full, this is tipped into a big bin. This bin is similar in shape but larger than a railway grain wagon. The cotton is then tamped (compressed) into this bin until the bin can take no more.

As a result of this tamping, the cotton becomes a module (as in modular shape). The cotton is then tracked (little conveyor tractor-type tracks) out of the bin and onto the back of a semi trailer flat bed, either tied up with a covering of cotton tarp (the blue synthentic stuff used for ground cover under tents) or the semitrailer might have a custom cover fitted…

The value of each can be as much as $20,000 in a good year…

I just rang MrD: the module is secured on the ground, we’re not sure how, and the tarp is placed on the module as soon as it is ready, because once picking heats up, the truck might not be ready and waiting…

Driving past the gin (Dunavants in this case), they look like multicoloured loaves of bread…

A little off topic but I was reading a book that has been produced about our nearest town. Town established in the 1800s, with all the memorable thing that happened each year since it ‘s inception. One page was about a tornado that blue almost all the buildings away back in 1917. I was under the impression that the mini tornado thing was only recent. I’ve been in 2 of them in the last 3 years so I thought they were another global warming event Maybe they are’nt after all.
