That was the year Superman was released.

They retire independant of the welfare state?
The government will still take a big chunk of it in tax

If they have enough money in super, yes.
For many people (most?) they will receive a reduced pension, or will start off living off their super and receive a part pension later.
Sorry roughbarked, I thought I was responding to you.
Still waiting for the hint.
It’s the Super, of the future.

You pay much less income tax on super than you do on direct income.
OTOH, if you take reduced government pension into account, the effective tax rate on people who receive a partial pension is very high. Much higher than for people with very high super income.

Doesn’t have to be in super, could be in cash, shares or property.

Sure, in fact all assets become part of the “super” fund, in effect.
But I’m still not sure what the intended subject of discussion of this thread is.

Yeah it’s a bit obtuse, I think the answer is Thursday but we can occupy this thread with other stuff though.
Not many people know that this was originally the song that Jiminy Cricket sang in Pinocchio.

That for many and I do mean many, these so called superannuation contributions were out of their power from go and by the time the govenment started to do anything about it all that money had been so called used up by administrations.
