There’ll be a good lunar occultation of Venus on 18 September, if that’s your idea of a good time. It will be in daylight but in some ways that makes it even cooler.
In Perth, disappearance is at 7:41 am, reappeance at 8:33 am, local time. Reappearance is better, because that’s at the moon’s shaded edge: Venus appears from nowhere and brightens to fullness over several seconds.

Occurs later at Eastern locations, e.g. Brisbane 10:47 am disappearance, 12:20 pm reappearance.

Sounds like a personals advert somehow.

Probably too much daylight to really see it at that time here then. Though I have seen Venus at about 3 pm in winter.

Never seen an occultation like that. Would like to, but i doubt it’ll be possible from here.

Also, hi Bill!

Note that there will also be occultations of Mercury and Mars on the same day but they will not be visible from Australia.
The Mercury occ can be seen from East Asia and the south Pacific. The Mars occ can be seen from the North Pacific and some parts of Latin America.

I remember standing in your backyard trying to find Venus during daylight. We did indeed find it :)

A bit of high altitude cloud did me no favours. I wasn’t able to spot the crescent until Venus started to emerge. Oh well, next time.

High, dense cloud defeated me here, too. I couldn’t even see the crescent.
