Arvo All, hope you’re all well and smiley.
I am growing red capsicums…well that’s what the label said.
Now I can’t remember when they’re supposed to turn red??
Can anyone enlighten me? Will they change colour just before they’re ready for picking?

yes and .. yes
of course they are all green in the beginning
oh cool thanks RB I was worried they were labelled wrong.
:( Back to work
Capsicums will turn red, yellow or what ever colour …like a tomato….takes a while and this is why they usually cost more at the shops.
you can still eat them green if you are in a hurry, or fancy a green one :)

Usually red is a bit sweeter….. I like using red and green for colour.
Same here and the odd yellow one , must admit I do like the red ones !

Great, I wondered about that too. Cheers. Might pick one for tonites tea.
The yellow are the sweetest
and the black the most interesting to watch.though I have these button types which go red very quickly really sweet bites. :)

the third shot is of Sweet Mama which you can get at Bunnings.
I reckon i grew something like that a couple of years ago and we stuffed them with cream cheese..
On a side note i have only one Capsicum plant in and it has not played the game this year and has only grew 4 capsicums……very very few flowers, is there a way to promote the flowers, the eggplant next to it has grown heaps of fruit

Water in some “Bloom Booster” around it. Can buy it at any of the Big stores

once they have turned red you don’t have long to pick them.
a couple of my big red ‘california wonders’ went rotten because i left them on the bush too long.
so pick them as soon as they are red.
Yes they either dry or rot after turning red.. dried capsicum is ok.. quite flavoursome but rotten capsicum .. well yuk. However.. it is a good way to get seed that works.
