Why cant there be a global standard for orientation of AC /DC Adapters ?

the shape and size and orientation of adapters ?

some go left, some go right instead of being straight

the adapters that are straight are mostly ok on a power board

the adapters made to be left or right can only be used on either the left or right end of the power board

so imagine a six plug power board

with six adapters all facing left, then you cannot plug them in to each power socket

you might be lucky and be able to plug in three

===

The other issue with adapters is the uk, us, eu, and au variation in plugs.

so quite often manufacturers will send an adapter with a uk plug and then put in an au adapter for it

instead of one global solution which is clip in or slide in plugs

===

Another area that needs global standard are colors of wiring for audio, colors of wiring for DC and colors of wiring for AC

Throws away au plug adapter.

“Bends” the straight pins on the uk adapter to be on an angle (without cracking the plastic casing).

Plugs in adapter.

Companies also seem to deliberately (looking at you Apple) redesign devices so old connectors/cables don’t work

Companies in general do this. Apple only copied from them.

Yes, that and taking away 3.5 stereo plugs.

Bad Apple.

When I first visited London there were different ( & incompatible ) plugs on either side of the river.
A lot of electrical appliances were sold without a plug fitted & you bought the right plug & fitted it yourself.

Never mind the river, there were often incompatible plugs on either side of the room.

Didn’t encounter that one but I’d believe it.
The place we lived in Fulham had the bathroom on one floor & the coin-in-the-slot water heater two floors below.

I was recently in Chennai, India and was pleasantly suprised to find my standard hotel room had bedside power points that were built in travel adapters. Kudos to them!

The situation with ac/dc adapters is a hell of a lot better than it was just five years ago. Back then there was never any adapter that would work with two devices.

Now that the USB 1.5 volt has become the standard, the only problems are compatible ampage and rectification accuracy.

AC/DC adapter shape is irrelevant because if you don’t like it you can change it.
