Strabismus, also called crossed eyes, is a condition in which the eyes do not properly align with each other when looking at an object. The eye which is focused on an object can alternate. The condition may be present occasionally or constantly. If present during a large part of childhood, it may result in amblyopia or loss of depth perception. Adults may have double vision.

I may have read too many British humorists, but the word always reminds me of the Daily Express column By the Way, by “Beachcomber” (actually written by people like D. B. Wyndham Lewis, P. G. Wodehouse, and (chiefly) J. B. Moreton, which ran from 1919 to 1975; one of the recurring characters was “Dr Strabismus (whom God preserve) of Utrecht”, an eccentric scientist and inventor (who invented the electric toothbrush. After that column was published, a Japanese firm contacted the newspaper saying they wanted to actually make them. He also invented a wrist-worn sundial.)

Other characters included Mr. Justice Cocklecarrot, a High Court judge, who seemed to be forever presiding over litigation involving twelve red-bearded dwarves (who were sometimes discovered to be suing themselves), and the Ministry of Bubbleblowing, which may have inspired Monty Python’s Ministry of Silly walks.

True. Lots of Roman & Greek history recorded. Some even in mosaics.

Wikipedia reckons the earliest mosaics date to late 3rd millennium BC Mesopotamia. That’s a thousand years after the development of writing in Mesopotamia (and hence well after the end of pre-history there.)

Everything before the advent of the personal computer is prehistoric, isn’t it?

No 359:

The straw is too long, dear Liza, dear Liza,
The straw is too long, dear Liza, too long.

Then cut it, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
Then cut it, dear Henry, dear Henry, cut it.

With what shall I cut it, dear Liza, dear Liza?
With what shall I cut it, dear Liza, with what?

With an axe, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
With an axe, dear Henry, dear Henry, an axe.

360 is very profound.
Also anger can be triggered by people just being fuckwits.

Hmm, don’t recognise it myself. I felt angry reading about that three-year-old girl being shot, but I have no secret desire to shoot a three-year-old girl.

perhaps you were angry about the injustice of it all and are secretly angry about personal injustice ?

(I don’t know if I agree with the cartoon specifically though)

I don’t think there’s any secrecy involved. I’m angry because a child was shot, which is a horrible thing that shouldn’t be happening.

I’ve noticed that. One quote always in my mind is “Stress: The confusion caused when ones mind overrides the body’s natural desire to choke the living shit out of some asshole that desperately needs it.”

As for anger at shooting a three-year-old, sometimes the “terrible twos” become the “traumatic threes”.

Am rapidly running out of cartoons. After today, have only two more days in stock.
