The use of drones in Planet Earth II gave some spectacular footage that could probably not have been obtained by any other means.

The Internet says there are over 1 billion motor vehicles in the world now.
I can’t see how 1 billion drones will have a greater impact on the world than 1 million motor vehicles.

I see we have an engineer with us.

Freedom of movement
Speed, getting there by line of sight
Accessibility, getting to sides of cliff faces for rescue
lots of others

*snort *
I think your comment, Rev, misses the meaning of distruption.
The number of cars per capita has not increased all that much in the last 13 years: they play basically the same role as they did in 2004.
The author predicts that the number of drones in operation will increase, over the next 13 years, by a factor of about 100, and that they will be playing many more roles. Obviously this is more disruptive, in a neutral economic or social sense, than “there’s still about a billion cars”.

If you mean a manned Duocopter then I’m not sure you could have got all these close shots.

I never saw it … I’m sure it wasn’t as good as the book though.
There’s an aid group in Uganda or similar that are bombing the locals with HIV, malaria and TB medications using drones.

That was a bit alarming til you got to “medications”

Sounds expensive when they can just use chemtrails…

I’m not talking about the last 13 years, I’m talking about the period when car use was growing rapidly. They had a far greater effect on people’s lives than drones will, even if there are 1 billion of them.
In addition to billions of cars there are billions of ships, billions of planes.
All have had an impact imo.

Well I agree.
I wonder if delivery drones will ring your smartphone when they have arrived?

Seems more likely that a central system will do that. cf when your uber is about to arrive, the system sends you a message: the message doesn’t come from the car.
