We all know the story Big brother. Is Google the stepping stone to Big Brother in our future?

I remember the UN using Google services and technolgy to understand the scope of conflicts in progress in Africa from time to time.

Nations are using and developing drone technology but Google has global access.

What do you lot think?

I don’t trust any company that can put software on my computer without my approval.
Especially if the company is American.

That said, Google is bloody amazing. In the early days I avoided using Google wherever possible so as not to overload their server. Now their servers are big enough to handle 100% of the world’s internet traffic if needed.

Google discontinued “Site Search” in April this year. Not so great. And they’ve stopped linking from their search page to their advanced search and to Google Scholar.

To some extent, but other things seem much more big-brotherish to me. Video surveillance all over the place and Facebook in particular.

Ah, but Facebook is self generated, not government/big business generated.

That’s the whole point. Google can get into facebook and everyone shoves their life there anyway.

Maybe Google’s intentions start out as good and reasonable but the accumulation of money and information creates a Big Brother almost by accident. Too much power corrupts as they say especially as an organisation grows in size and no one can keep track of what it’s doing

If you have an Android phone and/or a gmail account, visit this link for something really scary: https://myactivity.google.com/myactivity

Android phones record your conversations without you knowing.

I’ve been near two people who were talking and the ansroid suddenly came alive ( with no prompting) ans started printing out on the screen what they were saying.

The phones ARE listening to you – ok google how do you think they keep tabs on dissenters and terrorists ?

Left side
Activity controls -> Voice and Audio Activity

You can also see your location activity, YouTube likes, watches and feedback, and web activity

In Defence secure areas you are not allowed to take mobile phones or pagers etc, you leave them in little pigeonhole outside.

Mine doesn’t have that.

It does have the location activity, although some of it is wildly inaccurate.

I doubt it. I just have the accurate location switched off except when I want to find my accurate location.

Facebook doesn’t ever know where I am. Oran Park today.

“Wildly inaccurate” may mean you were located in Nigeria lunching with a Prince who needed your bank details to access his lost inheritance.

You’d be better off asking here, we know roughly where you are and the ankle bracelet doesn’t let you go too far away.

What are you doing there? I know the race track closed years ago.

I’m not actually there, I am still in the SW of WA. Facebook gives me an update on my location every few days. they always get it wrong.
