Subject: Bats of the Arctic

I never really considered that bats would live in the Arctic but it turns out there are many species of bat up there, living up past the Arctic circle or even past 70 degrees north in Russia, Alaska, Canada and Scandinavia. They include:

Northern bat (Eptesicus nilssonii) Pond bat (Myotis dasycneme) Greater noctule bat (Nyctalus lasiopterus) Little brown myotis (Myotis lucifugus) Hoary bat (Lasiurus cinereus)

Lots of flies and mosquitoes to eat.

Interesting, dv. There are bats that freeze when they hibernate during winter in the Alps. Do these bats hibernate too?

Golly yes, insects aplenty when the ground thaws in spring. But other seasons?

Mixed.

The hoary bat migrates south for the winter. The northern bat does hibernate four to five months of the year.
