ACT Government approves free pill testing at Spilt Milk festival

In a groundbreaking Australian-first, the ACT Government will allow free pill testing to take place at the Spilt Milk music festival in Canberra on November 25.

The move follows months of negotiations between the Safety Testing Advisory Service at Festivals and Events (STA-SAFE) consortium and the ACT Government.

I like the idea of a passive harm minimization program.

This could bring cleaner drugs onto the market.

An easier way to bring clean drugs into the market would be to have them prescribed by a docctor and supplied by a pharmacist.

That is the best way.

However If people can gt their illegal drugs tested, this will force illegal drug makers to clean up their product.

For harm minimization, that’s a good outcome.

It also gives people a choice if the testing proves it is something else.

Yes but unlikely to happen anytime soon in Australia

I am sure that the AMA and the pharmacists would be happy to oblige but it is going to require some big changes in government to even get near.

Would it be a good idea to allow pharmacists to check ingredients of illegal drugs?

They already know what should be in them.

Firstly, it’s damn annoying that the word “drug” applies equally to illegal drugs and prescription medication.

The “say no to drugs” campaign stops people from taking prescription medications.

Second. There should be a “for most people this is a placebo” sticker applied to most over the counter pharmacy products.

Third. Negative implications of “medication” and “self medication” need to be removed.

Fourth. I have NFI what the OP and linked article are about.

A drug is simply defined as anything that alters your state.

I take all my prescribed medicines dutifully.

as for the placebo comment, I could not agree more.

and in fourth place so am I.

Yeah, nah…

Opioids and Benzos are problematic drugs of addiction and are both prescription so you could apply it to them as well

But that would reduce their effectiveness.

If you put your specs on and read the back of the packet:

“there is no scientific evidence that this preparation does what it says about itself”

Well I’m about to self medicate down at the Pub

With a legal drug that arguably causes more dramas than all or at least most the illegal ones

Brett

I took a Benzo last week, just one, to see what all the fuss was about.
It seemed to me that “addictive” is really just a synonym for “this actually works”.

That’s where the problem starts. Not all pain actually needs it but then there is always the, it worked last time syndrome.
