Pesticide residue detected in 75 per cent of honey sold worldwide

Swiss scientists tested 198 honey samples sourced from every continent except Antarctica for the presence of five neonicotinoid pesticides, which are commonly used in agriculture.

I would have been more surprised to hear that there were NO traces of pesticides found in honeys.

Actually, the amazing thing is that the bees lived long enough to get it into the honey.

But we don’t have that bee disease here in Australia.

I think it is called something like colony collapse.

colony collapse disorder. there are quite a few environmental things that can lead to it. varroa mite is one.

The last time I checked
CCD was being attributed to multiple contributing factors
(over work: being shipped from state to state to pollenate
on demand, parasites, pesticides, viruses + the medication
used to treat each individual pathogen)

…all of which contribute to the general weakening of each
individual + collective ability for the colony to sustain itself.

Short answer: NONE of the above, Yet ALL of the above.
CCD is not attributed to one isolated factor.

The Neonics seem to be the proverbial back-breaking straw.

How frequently were pest residues (eg. legs, antennae) found in the honey?

SBS had a good documentary on bees earlier in the year or late last year (can’t remember)
It was about what is killing our bees, they even had a bee camera they used to see how bees navigate to and from the hive and how this can get messed up by pesticides

I said don’t be silly

“My daughters just went to gulp it down and they both spat the cranberry juice out and said ‘it’s poisoned,’” Ms Lemin said. “I said don’t be silly and took the glass and I went to gulp it down and then spat it out.”

Madness:

Authorities investigate claims Perth restaurant gave children citronella liquid, not cranberry juice

In short: Sisters Olivia and Hannah Lemin were treated for “burning” and “tingling” sensations after they were allegedly served insect repellent instead of juice at a Perth restaurant.
