I’m working on developing a flog self-check tool and need suggestions for things that flogs do that would help them self-identify. I’m thinking:

Start sentences with ‘So…’
Use the words like ‘space’, ‘learnings’, ‘in relation to’, and ‘leverage’ a lot.
Have a job title that sounds like they made it up themselves.
…?

Any suggestions from your experience of flogs would be much appreciated.

‘In regards to…’, ‘Around’

I once counted a regional manager use the phrase ‘In relationship to…’ 382 times in a morning.

Oi! I’ve started sentences with so since forever. And got good marks in English doing so. Excellent marks in English, I might say.

‘So…’ at the start of a sentence is used to indicate a conclusion, or bringing together of logical elements. It has been purloined by flogs to create the impression of confidence or certainty, and is applied with alacrity at the start of any sentence.

I d on’t know anyone who does this. But then I lead a fairly sheltered existence. I mean, I don’t even have a mission statement for my practice!

Me too. But I agree it is summing up stuff.

I also like’ thusly.’

(supervisor: Is ‘thusly’ even a word?
me: Yes.)

So that doesn’t mean we should be leveraging the learnings in relation to the flog space.

Seems like it’s an acronym for
an interjection connoting frustration
as in “For the Love Of God!” = “For God’s Sake!”

Flogs are using it to mean an area of human activity, like ‘I have been working in the human resources space’ or ‘There’s opportunities in the multi-level marketing space’ and such.

Don’t know “flog” in this context.

Perhaps you should rephrase the original question using “jerk”. Not “wanker” because that’s a bit different.

So, I was meaning to ask how you will leverage your learnings in relation to those in the on-line communications space, and fellow stake-holders?

But I probably left it a bit late.

But in relation to Mollwoll’s point, surely a flog is different to both a jerk and a wanker.

As I see it:

A jerk tries to assert his coolness with assertive petit unpleasantness to those he considers less cool.

A wanker tries to assert his coolness by trying to imitate those he considers more cool (and fails).

A flog (it seems) tries to assert his coolness by using language he considers to be that of intellectuals, not realising it marks him as the opposite.

Apologies for the gender stereotyping of these terms.

Also interesting that the masturbation link is still alive and well in words intended to ridicule.

Time we got over that I think.

The context I have heard it is a cross between a wanker and flogging a dead horse. Someone who is prone to carry on about a pet subject like they think they’re an expert when everybody else thinks they are wrong and full of shit.

more than just a wanker, a wanker that won’t stop.
