I’m scared to get too excited just yet but he’s improved dramatically over night. His last test results have amazed everyone and they’ve found bacteria in his urine which is actually a good thing because it points to an infection rather than a toxin.
We visited him this morning and he did three wees and a poo while we were there. Such glee over a cat wee. LOL
I made him eat a bit as well. We’ll go back tomorrow.

I have an AMAZING team of vets!!!!!!!!!

It’s wonderful what they can do these days…most vets can treat an animal but it takes special vets to do it with consideration and care…

We had a big scare this morning. I rang early, before they’d finished the morning rounds, and they said his lungs were badly congested and they needed more tests. I was supposed to wait for them to call me back but I just couldn’t so I went straight over and arrived just after they’d been trying to call me to say he was fine.
He’d been coughing badly when they got him out of his cage and his lungs sounded like they had fluid in them but by the time they scanned him it had cleared. All todays results are even better than yesterday, but he looks really sad and he’s lost a lot of weight. He’s refusing to eat for them so I have to force feed him every day. it’s a vicious circle really, because he’s such a nervous cat he’d be happier and eat more if he was home but he can’t leave because he needs constant monitoring and fluids.

Hi Bubba, it is a viciuos circle indeed. We try to do our best for them…but when surrounded by strangers doing weird and sometimes painful things to them, it makes you wonder whats best.
The stress they must feel definately adds to the overall probs.
Well, lets hope that Timmy is good to come home soon.

We have had such a roller coaster ride over the last couple days but he’s stable again.

I went in today and was shocked by how sick he looked. he’s just lying there and barely looked at me, but i had a long talk wioth the senior vet and he explained a lot of what’s been happening. His kidney function is back to normal but he’s still having trouble with a cough. His lungs are clear so they think he’s just got a very sore throat from vomiting and all the force feeding, tablets, tubes and things that have been shoved down. Plus he’s just plain depressed. They just want to keep him a few more days until his electrolytes are stable.

The vet said he’s not ready to break out the champagne just yet but he’s reasonably confident that he’ll recover. He had held grave fears for him last wek but he’s really happy with his progress.

Two days ago the bill had reached $1300 and I haven’t been game to get the update because he’s having daily tests. It’ll be greul for us for the next few weeks. :)

Timmy has been refusing food, so he’s come home as a trial run, but if he still hasn’t eaten by morning he has to go back.

We’re not fussing over him. I’ve put a few of his favourite foods down in his usual spot and he’s groomed himself a bit, which is usually a good sign, but he’s just gone under a bed and isn’t coming out. I’m ignoring him for now and just hope he decides it’s safe to come out. He’s still got a nasty broncial condition but I came home armed with drugs.

I’ve just had a mini melt down. He wont/can’t take his tablet for me and he’s usually so good. I really don’t know how much more him and I can take. It hurts to see him like this and I really really need an answer. Losing him would be heartbreaking but all this waiting and hoping is wearing everyone down. I’m considering asking for an endoscopy so we at least know what has happened down there.
The senior vet who’s been his main carer isn’t back until Tuesday but I’m going to have to see someone tomorrow about him not taking his tablets.

They are under orders to tell me as soon as they feel the end has come and they are caring enough to do it.
He’s on two types of antibiotics. One’s a paste that can go down his feeding tube and ones a tablet. The one positive thing is that he’s not coughing anywhere near as much.

Maybe I’m just being too negative.

it is always hard to see someone you love in pain. hang in there then bubba. they can always crush the tablets into a suspension. Maybe they will do that. Our Alex takes one of his meds like that.

Bubba you sound just like me…always fear the worse. Like BG said you could always make the tab into a paste if it goes down that way…..The main thing at this point is that tablet gets into him and works it’s magic.

How is he otherwise…still hiding? Is he eating food?

Still not eating. He comes when I get his food out and looks at it but wont touch it. The hiding comes and goes. He’s not best pleased with me because I’m the one who does the unpleasant things to him. He tends to go into hiding after I’ve tube fed him, and he has to have some more tonight. Tomorrow the amount increases by half so goodness knows how I’ll get it down him.
It’s a bit of a juggling act because we don’t want to fill him up so much that he doesn’t have incentive to eat.

He’s made a small but marked improvement.
Last night he had a huge vomit and really had me worried but I rang the vet this morning and we both think it’s because he hasn’t been getting his inflammatory bowel disease meds. He had a short acting cortisone shot this morning and no tube feeding allowed for 24hrs. During the day he’s actually started to eat. Only tiny amounts but it’s a big step forward and hardly any coughing. I just hope he keeps wanting to eat after the steroids wear off.
It really is one day at a time here ATM, and to top it off I had to take our other cat to get an eye ulcer treated as well.

What else can happen.

I haven’t posted about Timmy for ages. He’s made a complete recovery but the fur on his tummy doesn’t seem to want to grow.

Poor boy wasn’t impressed about haveing his photo taken.

Oh excellent news that he’s recovered :D Great to hear.
Yes the poor thing doesn’t look happy about his nudie pics.

glad he’s feeling better bubba.

our cat has a bald stripe across the back of his neck from a collar that caused an allergic reaction. he got a bad rash and the fur never grew back. not a big patch like that though! he might need a jumper when it gets cold!

Winters are pretty mild here and he’s an inside cat. Hopefully it’ll grow back eventually.

Well even if it don’t, so what… his health is the main thing
